Survey
I just did a user survey that was shown as an ad on the site. Thought it would help the site. The thing is, when I was finished(I think), I got this message:
Quote:
|
BURST! Media
Due to upgrades necessary for our systems, the BURST! web site will be down today, October 25 from 8:00 a.m. until midnight tonight EST. Ad serving will not be affected. Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
|
Does that mean that my answers didn't come in?

I don't think doing the survey actually helps Poly at all - just viewing the popup ad does.

Cool, next time it pops up I'll tell them I am currently in the market for everything!
According to this information there are currently 750 posters at something called Apolyton currently in the market to purchase a sovereign tropical island.........
.......249 of them wish to purchase thermo-nuclear warheads.........
Gentlemen I think we have discovered a new market.......

Done the survey too. Since it doesn't record personally identifiable information.
Out of curiosity, where does it appear - popup or banner?

I was doing the survey when they asked me about the US presidential elections. What is the purpose of this survey?

Don't worry, you're probably better informed then the average American.
I just put in ' can't vote', etc.

Just took the survey. Here's a preview for those of you who want to look the answers up before you take it:
Which of the following groups includes your age?
(I have multiple personalities, so all of the above.)
Are you . . .
{Choices are: Male, Female, or Not sure.}
(Male)
What level of education have you completed?
(This is a grey area, depending on how you interpret the opinions of my professors.....)
What is your total annual household income?
($100,000 or more, got make believable that I can actually AFFORD those thermo-nuclear weapons and sovereign islands don't I?)
What is your occupation?
(What? No Artillery option? Who made this question?)
Have you bookmarked this site? -by "this site" we mean the Website from which you came to this survey
(Well, duh. Is there an option for how many bookmarks I have of this site?)
On average, how much time do you spend on this site in a typical visit?
(The survey? Only once. Apolyton? I never leave.)
How frequently do you visit this site?
(See previous question.)
How likely are you to vote in next year’s presidential election?
(I think they passed a constitutional ammendment barring me and my offspring from voting. )
Did you vote in the last presidential election – that would be the 2000 contest between George Bush and Al Gore?
(Bush or Gore? Can't we have both in our movies?)
At the present time, how knowledgeable are you on the positions the declared candidates for President have on the issues you think are most important in the upcoming presidential election?
( X-I am very knowledgeable about candidates’ positions on issues - they are all complete idiots.)
How good of a job do you think the declared candidates for President have done on communicating their positions on the issues you think are most important in the upcoming presidential election?
(Excellent - they have all made it abundantly clear they are only in it for the money and the chicks. The welfare of the US has absolutely nothing to do with the postition in their opinion.)
Have you ever visited a website to research and obtain information on a candidate for elected office, or an election issue? (Please check all that apply)
(Yep, I went to that "How to dispose of a dead body without getting caught." website)
Thinking about the upcoming presidential election, what is the likelihood you will you visit a website to research and obtain information on a candidate for office, or an election issue?
(Very likely, I visit the Off Topic Forum quite a bit.)
Which type of gaming system(s)/games do you use?
(What ever is already plugged in.)
Which of the following, if any, activities have you participated in during the past month?
(All of the options involve me having to leave my chair, so None of the Above.)

Hmmm... I did only get about half of those questions before I got the aforementioned message. Guess I'll have to take it again! BTW Skanky: It's a banner.

I can't argue.
So, what is this survey? And why was it asking me to download something when I clicked on the link?

Now that I've put myself through all of that, how exactly will it benefit 'poly?

Yes, yes, I'm sure it was quite onerous for you...
This is ADV 101, duke. The idea is simple -- Advertisers want to find an appropriate audience. To correctly target their spending, the do research. Poly is participating in a bit of research by an ad service company, which will share the resulting data with their advertising clients.
If all goes well, advertisers will like Poly's demographics, traffic, and specialized interests enough to attract some business. This will benefit Poly through revenue (which may be based on views or clicks, or other). As users, we could (slightly) benefit by having a more appropriate base of ads served to us (as opposed to Britney Spears come-ons).
I was surprised there were no questions about online purchase habits.
I'm slightly bummed about the political questions, as Poly's volatile political involvment may mean that we'll be seeing ads for candidates. (But again, if it helps keep Poly subscription-free, we all win.)

Done. I guess I have the average profile of an OTer. It is however too bad that this survey is so US-centered. As a result, I answered all US questions as if they were questions concerning my country.

Did survey.
I'm afraid I'm too cheap to be of much use to the advertisers.

Just did the survey.
On the presidential questions I just voted "rather not answer", since I'm not in the US.
Add one vote manually for the democrats.

The question regarding whether or not I have bookmarked Apolyton is a little misleading. I haven't, and have never bookmarked Apolyton, because that would imply I would need some written memory aid to bring me back to a specific page. There should be an option to the effect that I visit this site so frequently and so completely that bookmarks become useless and worthless.
