"And you were cast into the lake of fire fore all eteeeeeeeeerrrrrrniiiiiity!"

What would their top songs be?

"Burning for the lord"

"Sinners suffering forever"

"Snakes in every orrifice of the sinners body"

Actually, I'd expect most of that to come from hardcore "Puritan" literalist Protestants, rather....

I don't think Catholic Rock would be successful. How many songs can one write about guilt and communion wafers?

P.S. I'm Catholic

yea, protestantism is all about hellfire and eternal damnation and such.

i've *never* heard a catholic priest have a sermon about hell and repenting sins or burning in fire or anything. Not once.

Though i stopped by a Baptist church once and it was the topic there. Made me uncomfortable.

Are you sure there aren't any? Last time I looked none of the Chrisitan Rock groups wore labels with the name of their denomination on them. There could be Catholics groups, but since the belief structure is close enough to that of Protesants you might not notice a difference in the lyrics. Who knows, there might even be "gasp" mixed groups.

Say, would "The Singing Nun" count?

The only religion that should be allowed into music is Satanism, but only as long as it stays in its own little ghetto and doesn't bother us mundanes.

I read that as The Sinning Nun. Which I think would make a catchy name for a christian band.

By christian I mean protestant/catholic/orthodox whatever. Different people have different perceptions of words. In the US "Christian" means of a protestant denomination (?) as I have found out.

Only radical Protties, in my experience, use the term "Christians" to refer to Protestants. More than once I've heard the phrase "Catholics and Christians" used to the detriment of Catholics. The only group that I've heard use that phrase has been Southern Baptists.

AFAIK, according to the Catholic Church, only the nonbeliever will go to hell. The sinner will go to the purgatory provided he's a believer.

I guess Catholic rock songs would be about how Mary kicks ass, and about so or so saint.

It doesn't follow any hard and fast rules, but when people refer to "christian rock" they mean protestant. I guess there are catholic rock bands, but I don't know any. This circumstance is probably due to a much stronger charismatic/evagelical movement among protestants. The charismatic movement among catholics died about 15 years ago and really didn't have much of a following even when it existed.

I don't think there would be any venues for a catholic christian rock band.

Well, I don't know which is more annoying to me: (1) hearing catholics or orthodox referred to apart from christianity; or (2) hearing catholicism or orthodoxy referred to as denominations.

Why shouldn't the Roman Catholic Church and the numerous Orthodox churches be refered to as denominations?

You really shouldn't talk about something you know nothing about. The Catholic Church does not teach that all non-believers go to hell, nor does it teach that all Catholics will eventually go to heaven. It's really sad that the country once considered the eldest daughter of the Church has fallen so far.

Yeah, I know, you're supposed to repent. That means you have to believe, no?

(oops, no, you can be repented by force before being burnt to death, but we haven't seen that recently )

The lead singer of a band I used to like (Dark Angel) left death metal and went into a christian rock band :barf:. I think it's called Oil.

Because they aren't. There is one church that is currently in schism (RC, various orthodox and copts, etc.). Protestants have left the church altogether, and thus are properly referred to individually as denominations.

"When was the US considered the eldest daughter of the Catholic Church?"

It never was, I was refering to France.

"
Yeah, I know, you're supposed to repent. That means you have to believe, no?"

While we certainly are good at guilt, being sorry for misdeeds is not the exclusive property of Catholics.

We don't know exactly how God will deal with unbelievers, but it is a clear teaching of the Church that hey can be saved.

Spiffor you are a smart man and I have always respected your posts, but you really ought to limit them to subjects you know more about.
