Woohoo! Florida Marlins Win!!!
Okay, a bit premature but it's now the 9th inning and they're up 2-0!!! What an upset! The mighty (Damn) Yankees felled by the lowly wild card Marlins! Yippee!!!

And here's some irony for ya, teams with little or no hope of advancing to the play-offs often start dumping high-salary players a little over half way thru the season with an eye on rebuilding for the future. Florida was getting close to that situation and were apparently considering trading away players like Mike Lowell and Luis Castillo but the main office decided to keep their better players and try for the play-offs as a wild card.

In their 10 years, the Marlins have had 2 winning seasons.
They won the World Series in both of those seasons.

I would've rather seen the Cubs in there, but I'm glad the Yankees lost nonetheless.

For Cubs fans. look at it this way, the real World Series was played 2 weeks ago That was a great series between the Marlins and Cubs

What a sad display; and I meant this thread.

The Yankee-Red Sox series was far more dramatic, and Yankee-Red Sox rivalry actually means something, as opposed to a utterly non-existant relation between the Cubs and the Marlins.
Anyone here happy the Marlins won? And by that I do not mean the Yankees loosing (you know you come from a sad-sack town were your only ray of light is the loss of some other team, which had nothing to do with your team doing nothing or going nowhere), but that the Florida Marlins are the World Series Champion? Countless fair weather Marlin's "fans" (yeah, three weeks of fandome sure do count) can now celebrate..and next year the stadium will still be half empty at best for most of the season.

That's all right:
YOU LOST! AGAIN!
And your team and management is getting busted up. It's back to the 80's for the Yankees!

Would it have mattered to anyone except a diehard Red Sox fan? It would have been another Series between wild card teams, the second in a row. I grew up a Red Sox fan, and a Sox-Cubs matchup would have riveted me, but I lost interest in this postseason the moment the Cubs lost.
