Let's see... Intelligence 10, Charisma 1... Nerd?
Man, I've played Fallout soooo many times, but I might just go back again since you bring this up.

I dont like having NPCs, they always die regardless of how careful I am. But Ive challenged myself to one day play a charecter with 10 Charisma so I can have as many NPCs as possible.
(I know Im misspelling charecter, whats the proper way of spelling it?)

I've always wondered how a 10 Luck character would play...
(and thank god this thread isn't about the new console fallout game )

I've just started replying as well and been amazed at how good a game it is. Even the 3 (4?) year old graphics don't bother me. Playing with a fairly standard character at the moment - Tagged small guns, speech and unarmed combat - and being generally 'good' as there seem to be more quests that way.
Planning to start a new game to try the 'evil' path and might try something different character wise. Not sure whether to be the intelligent scientist or the evil bare knuckled fighter. I'd imagine its more challenging if you don't tag a firearms skill ?

10 luck should get you all the special encounters especially early.
as for NPC's. I love them.
But only a few of them. Any over 3 isn't that productive. But I love Sulik. Cassidy is always cool (give him some drugs for real fun ). I almost always have those 2. As for the last slot. I usually have Marcus with a energy weapon (big guns tend to blow big holes in your party).

What's so good about this game?
I got fallout 2 and played for 15 minutes and fell asleep.
I haven't tried again.
Doesn't it just move way too slowly?
How long did you play before you got hooked?

quality, its not a typical "run through this level, kill these monsters, loot, level up, buy better gear, go to next level" Fallout has a great story line, but in order to enjoy it you need to be able to enjoy a good story.
edit: I got hooked because I played Fallout first, and then the sequal. I admit that if I had polayed FO2 first I would have quickly lost patience.

Awesome storyline and quality quests. (That, and the sheer quantity of things to do.)

I like it because post nuclear war games are just cool
and there aren't enough rpg's that use guns.
guns are just cool.

Its also the multiple ways of doing things. Its one of the few games where you canplay as an evil character and still get loads of quests or just complete them in a different way.
There's also loads of small touches/easter eggs that just makes you feel someone spent time on this.

Fallout 2 starts pretty dull, especially for someone not geared to clearing the temple fast, but it really picks up steam after you get out of Klamath and into the wide world. Of course if you like your combat realtime then you may never get that far. Like Planescape: Torment you need to let it grow on you.

Thanks for the feedback.
In the end, I think this is the thing that will sway me.

I could never stand playing as a female character, I hate the noise they make when they get hit. It's especially annoying when they're in power armour.

The most powerful character I made had Gifted + fast shooting (whatever it's called) plus high AG, IN and EN. You can overcome any challenge in the game this way and obtain all the quests, while being a combat monster at the same time. You can get by with ST 3 early on, combat isn't too difficult and you can usually run away until you have Advanced Power Armour.

there is no "one" character that can complete, or even have knowledge of all of the quests. That is one of the things that gives the game such high replayability.

Yep, even with a cheat to boost all stats you still can't do 'em all.

Maybe not all, but a very high number. I've found this character to be particularly unbalancing because of this, I still can't think of any quest that I've undertaken with other characters that I couldn't do with this one.

there are quests you can only do if you are good, and there are quests you can only do if you are bad.
the are quests you can do if you do quest X, and there are quests you cannot do if you do quest X.
there are things you can only find if you are lucky, and there are things you can find only if you are not.
ahh, but there's no sense in arguing about it.

You can become a porn star as well although i've never had enough agility. Did manage to get my wife a starring role though before selling her into slavery.

I forgot about that, you have to be a fluffer first, though.
