No, no Jedi mind tricks needed.
:ahem:
/me clears throat, and grabs podium
Over the past years, we have been blessed with many exceptional and diligent leaders who have taken a small peoples of 10 thousand souls, and cobbled an Empire now encompassing nearly 70 cities.
We have overcome the bizarre terrain of this truly odd planet, our fledgling geologists still puzzle the workings of our plate tectonics to produce such scattered mountains just where they are most inconvenient. Many have in fact believed this was all a part of a master plan, so carefully have these mountains been assembled.
However, I am not here today to laud my predecessors, but to take this Empire forward into our most glorious years. Though I must acknowledge my debt, I have many plans of improvement.
First, I hope to have every city celebrating, through the investment in marketplaces, and the improvement of terrain.
Secondly, I hope to complete the Great Railway, of which there are still cities of our own unconnected, even apart from the cities of our enemies to where our troops must go. To do this, I want to increase the number of Engineers to double their current proportion.
Thirdly, I hope to cripple the so-called Heathen Alliance, through the deployment of our courageous calvary and the engagement of our diligent diplomats, using the diplomats to knock down the cowardly walls, our foes hide behind, and then to crush their remaining garrison with the calvary.
Such are my plans, I ask each of you to vote for the candidate you feel will most suit our empire, both in drive and capacity.
Let us now hear from shade.
/me steps away from the podium.

Good speech. We can never have too many Engineers, IMO.

I voted for Ben Kenobi.
My respect for Shade is immense. I know he will do a great job of any position he attempts. He has experience and has shown his many skills in many governmental positions. I would trust him to get us out of any prediciment.
But Ben Kenobi has also served in our games long and ably. He has expressed his desire to lead us as our President. He was right about the celebrations when he was a lone voice in the wilderness. I have confidence in *his* abilities to lead us to victory as well.
It is a great thing to have 2 very qualified candidates for President. But let this be Ben Kenobi's time to serve the Apolyton Imperium. We want to have as many people experienced at all levels of government as possible.
I look forward to future success with either candidate, but let's see what Ben Kenobi can do as President.

We generally have a different President each month. Sometimes a person serves for 2 months, but that's usually when RL gets too busy for other Citizens to serve. I agree with you that it is good to have different people holding offices each month.

But while shade has been President of this game before (2 months in a row IIRC July-August), Ben Kenobi has not, and therefore "new blood" would be Ben, not shade.
Either one of them would have made a great President I am sure, it will be interesting to see how Ben does though.
On that note, when do you expect to play your first turns?

Congrats with your official election as president Ben Kenobi.
Good luck.
finally a relaxing month as VP...
When do we start? Do you start with the results of the last poll's (ie do you want reports?) or will it be done again by the new cabinet?

I agree. I would like to see the October ministers post their final reports to the new president, have him play turns (less turn then normal if he feels there is not enough direction in the reports) and then email the save so that the new Ministers can post their first polls.

What Ministerial polls were posted after the 1834 game? OK, there was the one by Ben Kenobi himself as FM. Did I miss some others?
I think President Ben Kenobi needs to instruct the new Ministers to post polls promptly so that he can play a session afterwards and get his administration going.

Perhaps the outgoing President could email the save to those Ministers whose email he has so that the Ministers could proceed if so instructed?

Either go ahead and play from the 1834 save, or let me play and I will email the save when I finish. Either works for me.
All the new ministers, please PM me your email addresses.
I'm looking forward to being president and actaully playing the game.

Got the drift. Thank you for your advice.
Here's what I will do. New ministers will not be posting new polls. Instead, once you PM me your email address, then I can send you the save.
Based on the results of the polls, and the save, I want to see your reports by Wednesday where I live. Since I'm on the pacific coast, this gives you all a little more time.
I intend to play Thursday, when I do not have a class.
I have sparrowhawk's email so far.

Excellent, I officially announce the "constructive criticism" season open!
(Unusually, this year the season coincides with German- and Greek-hunting seasons)

PM sent.
I'd rather post new polls, but I can have the advice sent by Wednesday, no problem.
