Wow... congratulations. I'm glad to see this story on BBC.
As I was thinking last night, this is a very important piece of news, even though CtP2 is a little known product.

Hey...that's really cool.
Now let's get Firaxis to do the same with the Civ3 source code. That would get us on CNN prime time, at least

OYu really think they'll do that while the game's still being developed and XP'd?

First slashdot, now the BBC. Not bad for a silly old game that most people considered dead a few months ago

I guess that's possible as well. Still means I'm the source though

As luck would have it, we just passed the 42k milestone Monday, so yes. So far 225 people registered in about 4 days, which is not much more than normal, although it does stop the trend of a slight decrease in the number of registrations that had set in over the past 2 months.

What sorts of game modifications could be done with the source code that could not otherwise happen?
Anyway, no publicity is bad publicity.

To quote myself from aforementioned FAQ:
Quote:

For CtP2 this means that we could do anything with the game we want, there are no boundaries whatsoever to what we can change (contrary to the mods). If we wanted to, we could turn this game into a Real-Time Strategy game, or even a First Person Shooter (though in that case we'd have to change so much code it'd probably be better to start from scratch ) The only boundaries to what we can do with the source code are our own capabilities to understand and change the game (since most of us aren't professional game designers, and there are a few caveats to the release of this source code, some things may simply prove to be too difficult to be worthwhile).

I submitted the Slashdot story, though they made some mods to my submission.
Either that or some one submitted a story extremely similar to my wording.

Anyone considering tinkering with the source will need a copy of Call to Power 2 to use it and faces a tricky task as Activision has removed all comments from the 1.8m lines of code just in case any of its developers words prove libellous or damaging.
|
That is funny.
