I haven't heard anything about one, but I've written a few articles I plan on posting here when release day comes around.

Prima!
All you need is the Apolyton Strategy forum.

There is a strat guide on the free CD, with some good pictures.

Trust me, if Fried is writing up some strategy articles, you don't need an 'official' strat guide!

I was stupid enough to purchase prima's guide to CivIII on release day. Boy what a waste of money that was.
Clearly the best strat guide out there is here or CFC.

I agree 100% with Panag.
And most existing guides here (and on Civ Fanatics) only need minor modifications, race-specfic, and closed-exploit-specific for the epic game in Conquests. As for the conquests, the basics should still apply, but yeah, we'll have to discover the best way to play them with the different tech-tree and other mods.

It says the author is Jennifer Gasiorowski. It is well written and has lots of info for new players. It cover the game play and some of the better strats. It is not meant for hardcore players.
There is an MP one as well (didn't read it).

I believe you know Jennifer under a slightly different name, and she's extremely well known at CFC.
As for the author of the MP guide, well...heh. You know him too.

Pre-release startegy guides are usually waste of time.
They get obsolete way too quickly.

Do you think Jen'd be ticked if we gave away her 'secret' identity? (Actually, I'm sure many already know).

For most people it is not a question of need, but they just like to see what others are thinking. I often agree with others points, but I do not always incorporate them into my game. Still am interested in any well considered opinion.
I did not even look at the authors name for the MP guide, but need time I insert the CD, I will take a peek.

I assure you, the strategies in the MP guide will remain most relevant for some time to come.

Dunno Warp. Might be better to ask though. If you reread the credits it gives away both my identities pretty quick, but hers is a bit harder to pick out.

As others have said, the best strat guides are Poly and CFC, anything else is pure entertainment not strategy.

as with any games, best place to learn how to play is at where all the 133t players play.

In the ptw credits, no handles are listed at all, and in the C3C beta credits, we all show up the same way, with both identities...but this info of course won't help anyone outside.

I certainly agree. Since all the l33t players post here, this is an excellent and invaluable source... all the l33t players actually PLAY.... well, I'm biased and an administrator of said ladder, but if you check in my sig, that's where all the real MP action is.
/me ducks and runs for cover to avoid the storm of "Apolyton and no other!" remarks.
Disclaimer: I am a tremendously loyal 'poly junkie; Poly raised me from a grunt player to the Civvin' MP demon I am now, and I absolutely refuse to post on CFC or any other board - I just help run the ladder because MP needs an organized web home, and www.myleague.com/civ3players is a great place. We have our own dinky lil' boards for small stuff, but I always refer people to 'poly if they want to do some serious learning.
(So if you want to rant at me after that, to you I say

Well, I guess we'll all know the answer 18 hours from now. (includes the time to go get the game, install it, and look at the credits).

They are pretty good (got them on my preorder disk).
There was even a Conquests version of my favorite graphics mod on it too.
