Someone already did a thread similar to this but about bands. This thread refers to individual musicians. If you're going to name a band, at least tell me which individual in that band spoils it for you.

Overrated guitarists?
I'll join the chorus against Elvis.
I agree with slowwy on Eric Clapton. Wonderful guitarist.

Also to add to my 'philestine' collection, the majority of classical music It's just so boring, overindulgent and w@nky. I remember being dragged along to classical recitals when I was at Oxford, and I must say they were good. The best evening's sleep I ever got A bit like Jack Nicholson on 'The Witches Of Eastwick' There is the odd classic, but for the most part they lack any aesthetic appeal...it is probably the most esoteric of all the musical genres...

Do singers count? Because if they do, I'd like to nominate Billie Holiday, the most depressing singer of all time. Thirty seconds of listening to Holiday can turn the happiest occasion into a rainy Sunday afternoon when you're broke and your car isn't running.
A weak voice AND one with no range AND it's nasal and whiny...what more could you want? *shudder*

The Grateful Dead, by far.
Jerry Garcia's noodling and off-key caterwauling is about as melodious as nails on a chalkboard.
Not to mention the fan base of smelly hippies who follow them everywhere, smoking dope and selling peanut butter sandwiches. Get a job. Get a life. Get...over.....

Elvis wasn't a great guitarist, but he sure as hell was a revolutionary performer.
Radiohead. They're ok, and have some great songs, but, generally, they're overrated.

Elvis, The Rolling Stones, The Stone Roses and Led Zep, who are both quite good, but not good enough to warrent their status IMHO.
The Beatles are a very good band, but not, IMHO, the best band ever, as many seem to claim. Thus they are a bit overrated IMHO.
Classical music is incredibly complex, and very clever. Much harder to compose than pop music. Thus I wouldn't say it is overrated, although like Provost, I like a few pieces, the rest I don't both listening to.

This is only true because Django Reinhardt was technically Belgian.
Still, the French do a great job of appreciating a good musician, especially when it comes to jazz.

Most overrated band, The Rolling Stones (at least anything they released after about 1969 or 70).
Most overrated musician, Elvis.
Oh, and any rumours that Celene Dion is from Canada are false. She's not from Canada, she's never visited Canada, as a matter of fact she's never even heard of Canada.
