Anyone else been looking at all the Half Life 2 videos?
There's quite a few now. Here's a good place to find em all: http://www.gamershell.com/download_movie.shtml
One thing that interests me a lot is the part of the Trap Town video where the player hides inside a building and blocks the doorway with a table. Two soldiers follow him- one fires through a window, presumably to distract the player, while the other one figures out that the door can't be opened normally, so he breaks it down by force. If none of that is scripted, then that's truly amazing.
Also from that video, I loved how the soldiers on the ground weren't aware that the player was above them until he started firing the H&K. HL1 AIs would notice you the moment you entered their field of vision, but if you just shot at them from somewhere they couldn't see you, they wouldn't follow the noise. This part shows that both problems have been rectified.
The barricades video shows a nice zoom feature. I like how clean it is. When Barney speaks, I don't think that his character's lip-syncing fits that well, but maybe its just me. Most important is the guy in the tower who sends up a flare and then a little later a weird helicopter shows up. If that, too, is unscripted, then that's awesome.
Bug bait was quite interesting. The player throws some fume-emitting thing that attracts giant bugs, which ravage the environment. I was a little skeptical as to why the bugs didn't attack Freeman and only attacked soldiers, but then one attacked him at the end. I liked the idea. It kind of reminded me of HL1 Snarks. They could help you, but just as easily turn against you.
I'll post comments on some more of the videos later.

Oh so thats what that thing does, when I played HL2, I had that fume emitting thing (small ugly looking ball that spits out particles right?) I thought it scared those big crab things that claw ya, but they didn't work, I used em everywhere and nothing happens, but this was inside a building lol

Well, walls didn't stop the giant fume-attracted bugs in this level. There was even one part where one jumped through a window that was about 40 feet up from the floor. It totally freaked me out.
The fume-emitting things don't scare big giant crabs, they attract them. You throw them at enemies and then the crabs maul them.

The tunnels video is cool. There's weird drones that he hits with the crowbar. These look much more fun to fight than those lame flying aliens from HL1. There's also a cool gun that sets things on fire. (It's not a flamethrower though, it seems more like the plasma rifle from Halo other than its effects)

Nah, Half Life 2 is quite good actually, but I can't rank it higher than HL1.

That's the only reason why I don't hate HL2... it can't be worse than HL1
[offtopic]
Why is that every time I see someone mention HalfLife as HL, I autmaticly think about History Line

Still needs some work on the anti-aliasing, though.

Bug bait was pretty nifty . I suppose it's a level built around bait, but if the bugs can appear from any open space in the game then....
And I'm not seeing as many maze puzzles... the game seems pretty straightforward. But the playtester needs to play some Rainbow 6... If you can't look at both corners in .5 seconds, you're toast

The playtester is soooooo bad at the game. He'll just run down a hallway, and then oh, oops, there's a combine soldier ahead of him that he didn't notice because he was admiring the view.

It's pretty amusing. He'll try to do the police thing, aming the gun up and sweeping.... The sweep trick is to detect people in your way, look up when you're going up!
I think the damage has been reduced. It takes him two trips around the corner in bug bait to asses the situation, and he only looses 1hp on the second trip. And the combine soilders don't move toward him

...and what's wrong with admiring the view?

he must be playing the game at ultimate noobie level..
the enemies simply miss with their machineguns from just a few meters distance!
I guess if the bugs attacked the player as well, nobody would use them. I mean it would hardly be worth it as you would possibly have to kill more enemies now!
