Why do we dream?
Why do we dream? Do dreams serve a physical purpose or are they just the mind having fun?

Cuz sleeping would be Focking boring.
Plus, your brain has to find something to do.

That's what I am thinking. The brain works all during the day, so maybe dreaming is the brain's way of taking a vacation!

Actually the brain works during sleep as well. It has some more peaceful times, but at times, during dreams, the mind is working full throttle.

"Their function is unknown, but Sigmund Freud saw them as wish fulfillment (nightmares being failed dreams prompted by fears of repressed impulses). If a high level of acetylcholine is present, dreams occur too early in sleep, causing wakefulness, confusion and depression, which suggests a form of memory search is involved.....For the purposes of (allegedly) fortelling the future, dreams fell into disrepute in the scientific atmosphere of the 18th centruy." Take note, Whaleboy

When I worked nights I learned that sleep deprevation is caused by not reaching the REM/Dreaming stage of sleep. Thus, I eventually was able to sleep 4 hours a day and be fully revitalized because I would dream, the times when I wouldn't dream I would be exhausted.
Of course this has nothing to do with WHY we actually have dreams instead of some other point we need to reach to get a good night/day sleep.

Dreams are your brain's way of telling you that you are merely a player in a play, and the director is an evil omnipotent God with a sick sense of humor.

Dreaming sucks for the pre-fragged spawn-killed - it's more like an ex post facto memo.

I try to think about a good topic before falling asleep...hoping to dream about it...but apparently my conscious and unconscious mind don't communicate...it never happens.

If you ever see any casino games, lottery tickets, horse races, in your dreams...memorise them and let me know.
Dreams? I don't dream enough to be credible in the subject...it probably wouldn't help that well over half of them involve material of a sexual nature that would lend me a quick ticket to Mingapulco.

Its the brain concreting the information it has recently recieved or has yet to fully understand. This is how we create neural models of the world in our brain.
At least from an anthropological perspective...

Horse names are no good to you though.
Once I made a small killing by betting on a horse which name popped into my head for no reason whatsoever. Too bad I didn't bet the house.
Even if it is a coincidence, I rather like having more conincidences like it.

It's interesting to see the landscapes I create in my semi-conscious state.
