I find that it isn't any particular accent that gets me going, but more my experience with that accent or the quality of the voice that seems to have an effect. Growing up watching a lot of war movies I thought that German and Russian were vulgar sounding languages. After all I saw them being spoken by a lot of evil Nazis and Communists. Once I was in the army I found that Russian was a really beautiful language (especially when spoken by a certain blonde 6 foot tall instructor from St. Petersburg). While stationed in Germany my first experience with a beautiful sounding voice was the recording of a woman's voice on the streetcar, announcing the stops. This was soon reinforced by a number of lovely German women who deigned to speak to me during my time there.
There are accents that I don't care for particularly, especially East Coast accents in the U.S. as well as some of the nasal midwestern accents like those I grew up around in Michigan. I still don't care for that nasal accent, despite the fact that a lot of friends and former girlfriends who speak it.

No, not exactly. Afrikaans is to Dutch what Cajun is to French, though IIRC it has moved even further from Dutch due to the larger population base of its speakers and the larger number of languages that influence it including Portugese, English, French and a number of African languages.

I know a Chinese girl who when she speaks English, she does it in a very soft sexy French accent. Also, she doesn't realize this.

She's married now. Sorry. Also, she's a good friend, but obviously racist. You know, Chinese are the best sort of thing. Everyone else is underevolved. If you ignore that she's very nice, and has been a great friend to me.

:mmm:
I've worked with a girl with an Afrikaans accent, I tend to pick up on it after we've talked for any length of time.
I also like a Brit in my history class, wonderful British accent, though she was born in raised here in BC.
However, the best for me is a strong Hispanic accent, Mexican is absolutely beautiful.

A lot of accents "do it" for me; peurto rican southerner with a touch of Bostonian I really hate the Midwest accent, like in Fargo. Makes them sound like idiots.

This depends on the region. People over here in BC won't talk the same way as people back east, or people in Quebec.
I just want to find out what accent Space05us considers, 'Canadian.'

Its supposed to be Manchester, but it sounds a bit put on to my hear. If you hear her talk out of character you'll find that her accent very different. She is actually from East Grinstead, which is about 15-20 miles from my home in the England.

The actor who plays Martin Crane is actually from Manchester originally. The very worst accent I heard on 'Frasier' was when they had Daphne's brother (played by Australian, Antony La Paglia) visit her.
For some bizarre reason, he spoke in American accented Mockney.
I love the sound of English when spoken by French Canadians. I also like Canadian English. Soft Irish brogues and Scots English of the Highlands and Islands are absolutely dreamy. I like a West Country burr, too, and the sound of Cornish accents makes me homesick for clotted cream, saffron loaves and pasties.
I can't abide a Birmingham or Black Country accent- despite being born a stone's throw from Birmingham. Yorkshire accents unfortunately remind me of Geoff Boycott and obnoxious Tory politicians.
I like most Australian accents I've heard (the Greek, Maltese and Lebanese Australian comedians do great take offs of the 'aspiring' ethnic accents) and I really do like Kiwi accents too. There is an advertisement on Aussie television for a Kiwi cheese where the actors (Kiwis) actually say 'frudge' for 'fridge', 'creckers' for 'crackers', and 'byewdiflee' for 'beautifully'.
I also like Ghanaian and Nigerian English.
