NEW YORK (AP) -- Pornographer Larry Flynt says he bought nude photos of Pfc. Jessica Lynch to publish in Hustler magazine, but changed his mind because she's a "good kid" who became "a pawn for the government."

Flynt told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he bought the photos last month from the men who purportedly participated in the amateur shoot with the Army supply clerk. The soldiers "wanted to let it be known that she's not all apple pie," Flynt said.

"My first intention was to publish them, but I don't think it was the best, positive move I could make," Flynt said in a telephone interview. "She's very much a pawn for the government. They force-fed us a Joan of Arc."

In an interview with the AP on Tuesday, Lynch declined to comment on any aspect of the matter, including whether such photos exist.

Her attorney, Stephen Goodwin, said in a statement: "It's incredulous that anyone would think it appropriate in any way to attempt to publish unauthorized photos of Jessica -- photos taken before she was deployed to Iraq and before her capture and rescue."

The interview with Lynch was scheduled to publicize her biography, "I Am a Soldier, Too: The Jessica Lynch Story," which was released Tuesday. It covers the days between March 23, when her 507th Maintenance Company convoy was ambushed in Nasiriyah, and April 1, when she was evacuated from a hospital by U.S. commandos.

After her rescue, the young soldier from Palestine, West Virginia, was celebrated as a hero prisoner of war.

Goodwin also said Lynch had never claimed to be a hero, saving that description for her rescuers.

"She is and will remain -- not a Joan of Arc, not a hero -- but a young woman honestly and openly dealing with the high price she has paid for proud service to her country," he said.

Flynt said the photographs appeared to be taken in an Army barracks, and showed Lynch topless and fully nude, frolicking with the soldiers.

He would not say what he paid for the photographs, which he said he'd lock in a vault.

"Some things are more important than money," he said. "You gotta do the right thing."

Flynt has been paralyzed from the waist down since an assassination attempt in 1978. His magazine won a landmark Supreme Court decision in 1988 that held that even pornographic spoofs enjoy First Amendment protection.

I doubt he has them. She's only 19. She wouldn't have had much time to do topless photos after she turned 18.

The question is: could he legally publish them? Is she considered a private citizen or a public figure, or does that even matter?

Perhaps he not publishing them because she wasn't 18 when they were taken? It does seema bit out of character for Flynt not to publish them.

10-11 broken bones, including IIRC, some vertebrae.

My best guess is that Flynt bought the photos to keep them out of the hands of competitors but won't use them because he doesn't have a signed release from Lynch and is afraid of getting sued. Sure, you can publish news photos without the person's permission, but Lynch wasn't news when the photos were shot. Plus, this also gives Lynch a "moral" platform from which to take potshots at the government.

She's 20 btw. It says she was apparently "frolicking" in an army barracks, so yes there was plenty of time for theses pics to be taken since she turned 18. It only takes a few minutes to take some pix.

In addition, I believe that Flynt can publish them if he wants to. The same sort of thing happened to Madonna back in the 80's.

when you are injured yuo don't go back

my sisters boyfreind

was in afganistan, he got injured (non combat, relating toa fall when he was working as a mechanic) and returned home

he did not go bak even when got better, but if his unit when out again, he would go

once you come back, you don't return to your unit until that duty is done and they are on their rest time

Well, AFAIK, Lynch isn't denying it, and I'm sure she could make a strong defamation (slander?) case against Flynt if he said he had topless photos, but they didn't exist.

Doesn't matter. If pictures were taken, the photographer (or whoever was behind the project) would have been a complete fool to not have obtained a signed release.

Different hair standards apply to men and women. Women just have to have their hair so that it doesn't interefere with the proper wear of the uniform. Usually it means they just bundle there hair up so it doesn't fall over their shoulder. Men on the other hand have to have their hair tapered even after basic. Honestly I see a contradiction here as in any other branch of the federal government having different hair standards would be considered sexist.
Anyway, I would still want to see her naked, although I am a little drunk at this point so that may have something to do with it...

I've always heard stories of women in the military doing wild **** like this, but have never witnessed it

. My units were pretty much all male units. Maybe unit wasn't the right word to use there.

Yeah I'd like to see her naked. And I'm not drunk. I just don't normally turn down seeing skinny women naked.

I want naked pictures dammit!
