Now they'd better look into making reluctant members find interest in more openly supporting the site, rather than finding more plausible reasons not to accept being bugged.
Panag,
one pop-up at login; maybe, but heck there's others too. That calendar isn't anyway useful for me and many others, as the first day of the week is Sunday (American model, meh). Furthermore I have four unused vouchers from the banner making contests, so I can still redeem those and get to buy for the CafePress stock price. Actually I could as well make much cheaper a T-shirt locally with my own printer (I do have T-shirt iron on transfers) or get it done in a local store. Graphics can be easily obtained from Poly - just grab one of the logo images.
My point is that you won't get far by adding more pop-ups. Normal MSIE users will get scared away or get tired of having to close pop-ups. Also it undermines the interest of users like me who don't like aggressive ads, but would like to continue supporting ACS.

hi ,
, well some ideas about it , Mark could reduce the other pop ups maybe and put apolyton pop's before them , ....
as for the calender , knowing Mark , can this not be changed , to have sunday the first day , line or whatever , this has to be easy , ......
btw , in Israel and in the Jewish communities around the world we also start on sunday
so Mark , can it be done
have a nice day

Careful what you suggest, Markos. This may be the part where you need to assert your intellectual property rights.

After all, it's not like T-shirts are a 300 dpi medium...
Cleaning up a text-based Web-res logo to textile-friendly standards shouldn't be that hard.

We need an official Apolyton Store in the US. That way North Americans by low priced Apoly stuff and Apoly can collect the royalties.
Anyone for starting up Apoly-Mart?

/me shudders at 'poly thongs...
'poly hats, eh? Well, if my head wasn't so big I'd happily get one. The only baseball cap I can wear is my old Sonic cap from when I worked there a few summers ago. Every other baseball cap has always been too small.
Now some kind of ski cap, bucket hat, or golf cap and I'd be all over it.
Of course... I still have to order my t-shirt.

Me too. I really wanted to do this, but I think it will be too expensive... But if it is to support Poly, then why not? It's not like I'm going to buy a T-shirt every month or something like that.

Say, couldn't you sell the stories from the eugh story forum?
Make them availlable for download or something.

actually cafepress is adding options for data/audio cd's as well as books, but first we'd have to figure out how to share the couple of bucks we get to the creators....

Great, but to me the point would be not to pay (and waste money meant for Poly) for delivery.., hence the 'download' option.
I like the book thing though
Perhaps you should talk to Vel too, some of the Candle'bre stories are really fantastic. ( if these would be included, I going to be very tempted to buy one )

Nah. Just getting fed up with all this advertising that isn't really effective and with Panag who keeps pushing for more stupid ideas. Like it would help to increase the number of pop-ups. The issue related to it was already addresses by me in this thread and several others from the last few months. Also seeing ACS becoming more and more filled with DG stuff is boring, as all other stuff seems to have no meaningful purpose. Neither do I enjoy this place as much before, as nowadays I have the reputation of an egghead around here.
I'm waiting for the day when ACS will introduce something else than more CafePress stuff or ads.

I'd be surprised if the creators wouldn't gladly donate their "couple of bucks" to the Poly Cause. I know I would...

Oh, but you could get higher income by getting 100% of the earnings, rather than just a small part of what the advertising agency gets paid.

Of course, without that advertising agency, they wouldn't get payed per view of a pop-up or per click on a banner, now would they?

Frankly, as long as Poly delivers eyeballs, the ads are effective enough, and a small price to pay for participation in this site IMHO.
Re Panag, I'm thinking he could use a marketing team -- or at least a decent publicist. His content contributions are generally ineffectual, yet somehow he still manages to consistently annoy. Probably due to his goofy "HAND" sign-off and oddball avatar...

Hey, it's just like TV, Ras. You can always change the channel/URL. Oh, and don't worry, I certainly don't think of you as an egghead, although rumor has it yours is somewhat ovoid in shape...

Subscription / donation services.
Hopefully for a banner / popup-free surfing experience.
