What does anybody know about ear aches?
basically I am looking for advice
I tried to call my mom, but she isn't answering (probably asleep)
I tried talking to my freind, but he only suggested putting some almod oil in which didn't make sense to me
ok my ear has been really hurting me, started last night arround 5
it hurts constantly so I have not been able to sleep
it hurts when I put any pressure on the opening (doesn't hurt at all when I do this on the other side)
at first it didn't hurt much at all and I thought it was because I had not cleaned my ears in a while, I didn't have a qtip handy and I always worry about using them so I tried a combinatino of hydrogen peroxide and water in the shower
this worked well for my other ear, but my one side started really hurting at this point
since than I have just been hoping it would go away, but it hasn't
I am not really sure what to do at this point
the idea of Nyquil or Advil or something is the only one I have right now
calling ont he experince of apolyton here

de-congestant might help relieve the pressure.
warm olive oil might help

Seeing a doctor would possibly be a good idea...

List of people JM has (or wants to) talk about his earache:
Friend: Check.
Mom: Check (waiting for her to wake up).
People on Apolyton: Check.
People on Counterglow: I see you didn't bother - wise choice.
Hmmmm, am I forgetting anybody?

There are mutiple locations and causes for ear aches, with very different treatments. They cannot likely be distinquished remotely; you need to see a doctor. Some of them, if not correctly treated, can result in hearing imparement.

I don't have a doctor out here in maryland (I do have insurance, but I am on my mom's)
so it would have to be an Emergency room visit (I definitely don't want to wait until Christmas)

Sounds like an earwax buildup, see a doctor and they can 'flush' it for you, or you could try sticking candles in your ear or something.

when we were younger my brother was always getting ear infections, one caused him to completley lose his balance.
Funniest thing I'd seen in ages.
(as i said i was young)

it does?
than should I try Hydrogen Peroxide again?
hydrogen peroxide did not work the first time so I am hesitant to use it again (and it did wonders for my other ear)

Well, it sounds like what I experience when I have a wax buildup, anyways. (which happens quite a bit for me)

What insurance do you have?
Most national/regional insurance companies have standard in-network and out-of-network pay schedules that are accessible online or over a toll-free number. The out of pocket differences aren't going to be that onerous for a mere ear exam if the doctor you visit is not on the network. Instead of paying $10, you'll pay $25 or something like that.

Are you in school?
Just go to the emergency room and get it taken care of. Ear infections suck, you need an antibiotic.

Doesn't your Uni require med insurance in your tuition and don't you have a clinic for your campus?

sounds like an infection to me.
better get some antibiotics soon.
hydrogen peroxide was a good idea
why it hurt worse is because of the infection.
warm compresses do help with the pain.
or heating pad.
and tylenol....but the only thing that
will make it go away completly is antibiotics

Go see a doctor. Explain your situation. He/she will likely see you an let you pay later.

Don't go sticking things in your ear.
Not only is that dangerous, but it can't do a very good job anyways since your ear canal is long and spiraling. To get it really clean you need to have it flushed with water.
(coincedentally, I believe the invention of the q-tip came about after someone cleaned their kid's ear with a matchstick and deafened them for life. Not a very good choice of example. )

Please don't stick anything in your ear right now!
Try one of those ear-flushing kits you can get at most any drug store. Use the wax-softening drops, then use the rubber bulb to flush warm water into your ear canal. Hydrogen peroxide is also a good idea.
If these don't work, see a doctor. Your hearing is far too important to mess around with.
And again: don't go poking things into your ear, especially right now.
Good luck!

yah
the correct answer is see a doctor
which I did, but since I had tried to flush out the wax earlier (when it was only hurting a little) he couldn't see anything
so he removed some wax and told me to come back on monday (with instructions to rush in if it started hurting noticeably worse)
if you ear hurts don't stick anything in it (Even to flush it out) because the doctor won't be able to see anything (and moistened wax is apparently hard to deal with without doing things which would be bad for the eardrum if there is a whole or infection)
