Question to the oldies: How many years has 'Poly done the hat thing? Thing is I just noticed I started the hat thread last year and I didn't think at the time it would snowball as it did; I just wanted a christmassy avatar. Of course the snowballing (what a Christmassy metaphor ) makes more sense if it was done in years before I suggested it.

I can't recall it from previous years, but then I wasn't in the OT much at that time.
And I tend to have the memory of a goldfish.

Thank you, though I won't put the hat up until Dec. 1st.
I'm debating whether to switch back to 'regular' Alec Guinness, or to leave up the BVM since my girlfriend's birthday is today!
It's exactly 6 months away from mine.

Why don't you put a Santa hat on aunt Mary?

The whole point of my having the BVM is to honour what my girlfriend believes. I don't see having a santa hat as honouring, more like mocking.
I'd just rather go back to Alec Guinness, I've had him now for 8 months until this recent switch.

If modern art allows people to display canned **** and sperm bottles, and calling it "art", then I'm sure that the human race will soon find some good reason to profane religion as well

The concept is valid. The execution leaves something to be desired though.

Will you be updating the standard avatars, or are you advocating loads of spam for all those who have not yet reached 500 posts so they too can celebrate Christmas in time?
More seriously, how's about putting little hats on the Civ avatars?

Hmm, they'd have to adjusted one by one though right? And if the 500 post requirement is dropped temporarily Ming is going to be inundated with requests.

A quick-and-dirty way to do this would be to add a christmas style standard avatar (or several) and let those with under 500 posts select from these few new ones.
Updating every single standard avatar would really take a lot of time.
