GhengisFarb poor use of Armies.
I am such an idiot. I always have lots of empty armies from my elite victories but I NEVER thought to put a King in one and add some defensive units to it to protect him.
I have no idea why I didn't think of this before but in the medieval conquest each of my King units is now an army with two units to protect them.

That's why i come to 'Poly. I also had not considered that. Great idea, thanks Ghengis.
Except you have to rename the thread GhengisFarb's great use of Armies.

I agree: best use of the army I've seen. I think if I get armies in Rise of Rome, I'll place Casear Augustus in one of them.

Rise of Rome starts with an army named Caesar. There's no king units.
Anyways, in that game, I've managed to take out Carthage thanks to my use of 3 armies that I've acquired

interesting.
might be a tad too powerful though.
Not something I will do as I don't think that was the intended use for Kings. If the AI did it, that would be a different story.

Or just stick the king in with an army of conquistadors and it would be damn hard to catch...

If you stick him in a boat, he is going to be mighty hard to find too IMO

how is this a good idea? Its seems pointless to me since you can just stack a ton of units on top of him to achieve the same result, no?

Because now all the units in the army get a small bonus ( either 1/6 of the total defense or 1/4 depending on the presence of the pentagon or lack thereof ) as well as the extra hitpoints. This means that you can give your king some really kick-ass bodyguards while at the same time stacking some defensive units on top of him for good measure.
Watch out for nukes.
P.S - Ghengis - I think I may have noticed a flaw though, at least as far as the epic game goes. Unless they changed the rules you cannot unload or upgrade the units in the armies which means unless you wait until the very end of the game to impliment the strategy you'll have your king garrissoned with spearmen/pikemen or some other unit fairly ineffective against tanks.

Now, I haven't played much regicide mode games, but aren't Kings the last units to defend usually?
but don't armies usually defend first? So you can have an AI SOD take your king army down to 6 HP so it'll stay and defend against the next attacker which then kills it?

But an army only dies when ALL the units in it die so they would have to kill three units at once to kill your king. I've actually started using my King Armies to attack people in this game as they are currently my strongest attack/defense forces.

killling two units is no greay accomplishment, I woud say by doing what you have done you have put your king in greater risk than had you just stacked units on top of it.

Actually the game now considers the Army and every unit in it a King. In the Medieval Conquest the victory point screen shows me having 12 Kings. I currently have an Army with a King and two Spearmen in it, but the single Spearman who isn't in the Army shows up in the normal view so I am assuming its the first one to fight.

In Sengoku, if you stick your maxed-out daimyo in a army and plop him in a walled city on one of those 1-tile island hills, he'd be pretty indestructable, since only other daimyos can amphibious assault, and it would probably be suicide to do so...
