Meet the Otakukin
I'm now convinced that LiveJournal is the greatest thing ever. It's practically teeming with goths, furries (esp. babyfurs), and other such sweetly, sweetly insane people.
I would have thought that the otherkin (people who think they're dragons, elves and such - there are more of them than you'd like to think) are the nuttiest of the nut as far as communities go, but they're nothing compared to the Otakukin. These people think they're anime characters. Yes, anime characters trapped in this world, and the anime shows and movies we see are just reflections of their real lives. As anime characters.
Enjoy.

Argh. Couldn't sleep. O_@ Been having those dreams again, the one of the past life I'd rather like to forget. The screams of the women and children, the smell of blood, the deafening roar of the buildings collapsing all around me...the shrieks of a thousand lost souls as I absorb them, nay, as they become one with me.

Maybe s/he was at ground zero in NYC. Anyway, they're nuts, but I thought the furries were way worse.

Anime characters.
ANIME CHARACTERS.
I mean, your regular furry who doesn't own a fursuit and doesn't believe he's a mutant kitsune with four penises and just likes to occassionally **** to anthro porn is lightyears ahead these guys in sanity scale. Even the otherkin, who believe they are dragons and elves, for god's sake, have slightly more grounds to stand on than these people.

i beg to differ on the otherkin who think they're dragons.

is pretty ****ing whacked. And in reading the pathetic mewling of the otakukin I discerned that they more identify with the anime characters than think they are one. At least, I hope so.

I hold that they think they are anime characters. Consider - they've named their community "otakukin" - clearly derivative from "otherkin".
And if they're into animal-esque anime characters, all that's needed for the ultimate proof that Internet is f'ed up beyond all hope would be for them to wear some gothy make-up and diapers.

What is it that makes a lot of people in the Western countries go crazy about Japan and Japanese things like Anime and J-pop?

It's similiar enough to western culture to be familiar and cool, but at the same time it's different enough to be strange to 'outsiders' or those who don't follow it.
