LOTR Twin Towers extended DVD
It comes out today in the U.S. A 4-CD set with 223-minute director's cut and numerous bonus features, much like they did with the first movie.
Are you gonna buy it? Why or why not?

My wife insisted on buying the "regular" version when it came out, now I'm insisting on the extended version (I warned her...). Now she's not in a rush to get it. Bah!
I'm really looking forward to the extra footage; it made the first movie so much better, so I'm hoping it does the same for the second.

To watch, purchase, or read any LOTR product, film or merchandise would be to break my promise to God.
I dont want to go to hell...
EDIT: I thought this thread was going to be something about 9/11!

223 minutes? The original was only 180 minutes--that's a LOT of new stuff. Fellowship only had 20 minutes of new scenes.

I thought Fellowship had 40 minutes of added footage, and Two Towers would also have the same amount?
Either way, I'll be buying both Extended Versions very soon.

They waste more time on a journey that, not only didn't happen, but goes totally against Tolkien's character of Faramir?
What a tragedy.

I'd pay for a version of Two Towers that would cut it down to two hours (why do we need a confusing fantasy sequence that draws out the movie and is not in the books again?) and add actual blood...

tolkeins portrayal of faramir was of no consequence to any of the book. he was a stop gap. someone to meet. look if ur a rabid "omg wutever tolkein wrote is gospel" then well....stay away from me.
but faramir's increased presence and interesting character progression is good for the movie. whether OR NOT tolkein ever wrote it.

I got the theatrical release version on DVD - good enough for me. The pacing in the theatrical version seemed impeccable. My wife wants the extended version though.

Yes, I will buy it.
I've heard, that the extended version fixes tTT completely , so I want to see the extra footage.
And I also liked all the extras in FoTR, so I want to see what new they could think of (like all the neat gollum stuff).

As I expected, my wife ran out and got it yesterday. She and my daughter spent the evening soaking it all in. A year later, and they can still quote the script in real time -- pretty annoying.
Some of the new scenes make actual contributions to continuity and plotting, some are amusing, some just add exposition to certain scenes/characters. It was nice to see the backstory on the horse that picks up the fallen Aragorn and brings him back...
Overall, I thought the extended version helped the 1st movie more than this one does. Still, a richer, more satisfying viewing experience.

My wife bought it, saying that I wanted it. We already had the theartrical version. I thought we should wait until all 3 are out, and they would realease a 100 disc set, that would be better... With over 100 hours of never before seen crap!

Heh. I have a similar take on what was done to Faramir. But I'd rather have some extra stuff that *might* explain why they did it than not.
yavoon,
Suffice it to say I disagree re: Faramir. When I read the book, he was one of my favorite characters. When I saw TTT for the first time, I was shocked at the changes. Not just because changes were made, but because I can't for the life of me figure out WHY they were made. I understood the changes/cuts in FotR. I didn't get most of the stuff they did in TTT.
Anyway, Peter Jackson has done a great job overall, but I do think he completely wrecked Faramir, and since I like that character, it irritates me.

My friend just told that this box set was amazing and totally dominating, even comparing to the original theater version and the extras are supposed to be excellent.
I don't know.. I'll wait another year and get the whole thing when they sell it like that. It might have some extra stuff in it anyway when it's the whole trilogy set, so I'm waiting for that one.

New york times reported yesterday that the Aliens trilogy is going to be released in a 9-set with all the extras.
I suppose the Lord of the Rings trilogy will get the same treatment.

this is paraphrasing from the dvd extended version.
but faramir was changed because shelod was cut out. and w/o shelod sam and frodo really don't do anything. they walk around, meet gollum, gollum takes em to black gate(oh can't go there!) so they walk around some more.
now atleast for some time they are in a touch more peril. and the peril is not pure evil. but the inner struggle of the weak human. AND unlike boromir faramir wins his.
