A favicon is like an image that is along side the address bar when you load it up.

Something that appears on TV when there is nothing on. Made popular by the BBC. This is the most common one:

No, not really..and neither are anoraks.
Don't want to destroy your self-image of being cool but both trainspotting and plainspotting have a VERY low cool factor I'm afraid.

No one looks at these things, but all big sites have it, and if we want to dominate the world, we have to have it too.

One specified in the LINK element. I don't think IE supports those, though I don't think I've ever tried using an .ico in it.

It's nice to have, and the icons stay in the bookmark, at least temporarily. It's so much easier to find websites by looking at the icons.

Pfft. Let 'Poly be non-conformist, like everybody else. I say there's much to look at around here without more icons.

I think you'll find that the most common type of test card these days is the one in the background of this page.

Here's my first effort (to use just rename it favicon.ico and put it in the base apolyton directory)
Whoops, looks like we can't upload icons.
So here you go:

It's the stupid IE way of having the favico recognized that DDoSes servers that don't have one for no reason. I'm not saying anything ill of the favico itself.
