If you have not won a 1on1 in 2-3 hours it should be pretty clear whos going to win. If you are losing a slow meat grinder war you should have the grace to concede. I guess if you end up with two pacifist builders then things could drag out a lot longer.
If you have a broadband connection you should be fine. The lag only gets crippling when you have too many players. It will be slower than you are used to, but patience is a virtue

Ok, 2-3 hours wont hurt much I guess
And since I probably wont survive the first game, it wont be that much time spent on this

Anyone up for a small test-game? I just want to see if it works on my computer...
Doesn't have to be a complete game, just the first 100 years or something would be great...
I tried today with some random people in the room, but there seemed to be a problem, and I don't know if the problem is my computer, or theirs...

After trying a couple times (Both against MarkG and some random players) I have found out I can't play this game online... I have to back out of the Tournament

What was your ping, ADG? Do you have broadband or dial up?

More importantly, are you on a router and what type of firewall do you have up?

civ has gone backwards if a multipalyer game can be finsihed in 2-3 hours imho. I enjoy the longer games where nations can come back from behind and win

I had a ping <100 (got ADSL). I have a router, but no firewall. Solver said the problem was because I was using NAT (?)

NATs are death to online civ playing. a NAT is a hardware firewall. You must forwards the ports needed to play online. These are found in the read-me.

We need to get this thing together. Ive just had a run of utterly unsatisfying MP games. Plagued by dropouts, newbies and sore losers. I want to play the elite that poly has to offer.
Can we run this tourney as an 8? With ADG gone we only have 9 players left so we could lose the last one to sound off, or something.
Whos on today? I've got all day to play. Maybe we can organize a time, grab a few people from the in game MP lobby and get going.

How about if MarkG did a little "advertising" in the OT..?
I only saw this thread by pure coincidence... have only been in the Civ3 forums once for a very long time...

It isn't always possible for players to configure NAT port forwarding. Many ISPs use NAT, in order to minimize number of IPs used, and allow users no access to the hardware firewall configuration. Therefore - half the games don't work.
I'm glad that both CtP and CtP2 work even from my NAT, where I can't open anything up.

Lameduck, you might want to put that in the tourney thread http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...hreadid=102747
Have you tried sending him a PM through Poly? (down the bottom under the off topic forum)

Mark me down. Can you keep Wittlich and his spears of doom away from me in the first round?
