Newbie asks help for a bug
I admit, I registered here only to get my Civ3 conquest to work propely. All help is greatly apriciated.
So...
My civ3 has always workes flawless. Then I bought Conquest. One minor bug is taht i get those empty info screens regulary, but i can live with it. But the fact that the game gives me the message "The Game Will Now Quit" (and it does it indeed) approximately every five minutes is untolerable. This occurs quite randomly, but quite often when I try to look at the techology screen.
Of course i've re-installed both Conquest and the orginal Civ3. Due my googling i assume there aren't a european patch for my version yet. (Finland!!1)
And to the end I express my neurotic lust to get to play the game propely with some random smiles:
Can't hide the irony.

Nope, no patches (yet).
Is this in SP or MP?

There is a localised patch for the Euro version. There is a link here:-
http://www.civfanatics.com/index.shtml#11-16-1
Look under "Thursday November 20th" heading for the link to the file and also a link to the announcement and content.
Please note is is NOT the patch you are all looking for but merely one that redresses things that Localisation caused.

Mjolnir, I am not aware of what this problem is, as I have not experienced it. Is it specific to particular setups?

I'm quite confused about those patches, is that France/Deutch etc. meant for ALL european versions of the game, or just for those certain countries. I installed the mentioned patch, which gived me some French bullshit, but after hitting next couple of times it indeed installed [i]something[/]. But regadless of that, the game still seems to be version 1.00.
The problem occurs in single plays, for multiplays, I do not know for I haven't played it yet.
I have updated my graphic accelerator. Should there be other components i should update, that would be relative to this problem.
And yes the problem occurs indeed quite randomly, not in the start screen at least yet, but mostly in civiliopedia and in the game itself.

Have you tried to contact the developer (Firaxis) or the publisher (Atari) with the description of your bug?

I think forums are made also for these reasons, therefore welcome anyway.
About your problem ...dunno,maybe,after uninstallig and rebooting, you have to manually clean the Windows registry from fossils of previous demo versions-time limited you could have installled previously.

I've had this happen to me to. When the Illegal Operation window pops up, click on Details, it should give you a roundabout hint as to what file (and thus what aspect of the game is causing the crash) is causing the error. In my case it was with the Sound Card. My problem for me was that the Volume Control must be accessible in the Task Bar while the game is running, or else the game will crash randomly and very frequently after 5-10 minutes of play.
