The WOOOOORST Christmas song ever
There is some Christmas music which is really dear to me and I don't want to see such horrible things next to it. But I think there is some stuff worth a dishonorable mention. For me it is:

- Silent Night
- Jingle Bells

Both are far too popular for their quality and have the sticky, over-sweet air which replaces true emotions.

(Btw. It's a real fun to imagine Silent Night combined with the "Plimplim - Plimplim" of Strauß' "Schöne blaue Donau" - Blue Danube Waltz or whatever it is called in English ).

I love em all

including Grandma.

I even like the song- these are a few of my favourite things- it sounds like it was done by AC/DC- great lyrics .

And don't forget Cheech and Chongs bit about magic dust. Though that isn't really a song.

Google Christmas Truce 1914, and see if you still think Silent Night is a sappy song.

I don't know which one is the worst song, but the most funny is this one:

Feliz Navidad, prospero anyo y felicidad,
I wish to wish you a Merry Christmas from the bottom of my heart.

There no other words in this song, and the guy repeats them over and over and over again ad infinitum.

Anything by Bing Crosby....Or Kelly Ripa, John Tesh, Kathy Lee Gifford or any of the other truly annoying celebs who do the cheesy end of the year song albums.

Jingle Bells is technically not a Christmas song. One of the few good things about it though is that it is such a simple tune that celebrities don't bother to record it.

Silent Night can be beautiful if it is performed as it was intended to be - simply with just a guitar for accompaniment.

In general, I can't stand overly embellished Christmas music. The worst holiday tune for me is The Christmas Song - you know: "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...". Not a great song to begin with yet every version I've heard kills it with crap syncopation or too much jazzy pitch.

You Scrooge! For a guy who performs in opera, it sounds like you haven't spent nearly enough time singing drunk. "12 Days" is one of the great drunken sing-a-long songs of all time, and the very best drunken sing-a-long carol.

"Jingle Bells," on the other hand, sets my teeth on edge.

Alcohol spoils a community of festive spirit by turning it into a mob of impulsion
Alcohol makes Fools out of Gentlemen.

Needless to say that I have nothing against the 'choose your poison' thing, but if you try to poison ME then you may be poisoned yourself.
Stupid bloody culture of alcohol - The world needs more sane, rational thinkers and less (ugh) foolish drunkards

Do these fools fail to see the retards they transmogrify into? Do they want to live their lives with such foolish fun over wise and thoughtful action? Well they can kill themselves any way they please - and if they interfere with my thoughtful action I will be obliged to help them die.

(BTW I'm an intellectualist living in a College Dorm - forgive me if I'm a tad homicidal)
---
I'm also against the commercialisation of Christmas.
I'm against religious holidays in general
And I'm also against the nescesity to meet family

But in the sense that Christmas contains Friendship and Generousity I am in support.

Twelve Days of Christmas cause its so hard to remember what comes on what day.

Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.
I just am so tired of that one!

Those dogs barking Jingle Bells.

I'm not talking about the vagaries of live performance, I'm talking about just the quality of the song itself.

It's monotonous tripe, lacking in any musical merit. It's also only fun if done with creative text changes. For instance, when divided up into a sing-a-long some years ago, two friends and I were in charge of 3 French Hens. Naturally, we changed the verses to other French items, beginning with fries and toast, and ending with what you can imagine was surprising bawdiness coming from three teenage boys in the company of adults, six of whom were our parents.

Certainly, that was fun. But it owed little to the actual quality of the song itself.

Actually, I didn't think the movie portrayed him too badly, especially if you keep in mind 18th century values and familial relationships.

Still, it is a dramatic exaggeration, just as the "rivalry" between Salieri and Mozart was (Salieri certainly had nothing to do with Mozart's death. Blame Mozart's wife for feeding him undercooked pork). It's clear from letters between Leopold and his son that the two loved each other very much, and that Leopold, while intimately concerned with his son's well-being, was hardly an ogre. He did drive the young Mozart too hard and, in essence, paraded him around Europe as a performing monkey--but there's no evidence Mozart was miserable for it. On the contrary, his letters to his sister and cousin show him to be quite thrilled with the travel and experiences.

If you ever want a treat, read some of the letters Mozart wrote to his cousin. They are a hoot, full of raunchy scatalogical humor and some dizzying wordplay.

Excuse my ignorance, but:
#1 what is the relation between the topic in question and alcohol

#2 why WC being a drunkard saved europe from TTR? He was so drunk he didn't understand to be terrified or what?

Drinking lowers inhibitions, and Sir Winston's waging of the war was certainly not inhibited.
