Rank the Candidates
From one of the many media newsletters I get...
Quote:
|
AMID THE DEMOCRATIC DIN, DEAN EXCELS AT MEDIA SPIN - Based on a metric prized highly by Madison Avenue - media impressions - Howard Dean is clearly the Democratic frontrunner for a Presidential nomination. A year before Americans will vote for a president, Dean is leading his closest media rival - John Kerry - by a margin of two-to-one. Of course, the candidates have yet to make significant advertising buys, so the media impressions we're talking about there are the free kind - PR. During the month of November, Dean generated 2,906 press mentions among the major media outlets archived by Factiva, a joint venture of Dow Jones and Reuters that compiles news content. By comparison, Kerry accumulated only enough media clips - 1,678 - to secure what presumably might be a vice presidential candidacy. But former general Wesley Clark - whom many believe would make for a more ideal ticket with Dean - wasn't far behind with 1,469 clips. Meanwhile, distant runners Al Sharpton (683 media hits), Dennis Kucinich (630) and Carol Mosely Braun (343) will need to put their spin machines into high gear if they expect to close the gap. The Riff will be keep an eye on that, as Factiva plans to publish a Democratic candidate "Media Visibility Index" monthly through the Democratic National Convention in July.
Media Hits
Howard Dean 2,906
John Kerry 1,678
Wesley Clark 1,469
**** Gephardt 1,329
John Edwards 1,249
Joe Lieberman 1,225
Al Sharpton 683
Dennis Kucinich 630
Carol Moseley Braun 343

I thought the "media hits" translated very well with how the candidates are currently doing. They do this for every election, and most times, it's a very accurate view of how the candidates end up doing.

In a Chris Matthews interview last night, Dean was asked about how we handle Iran. He said we would have to ask the Soviet Union to stop selling nuclear equipment to Iran and if necessary, buy it ourselve from the Soviet Union.
He said it four times.
Soviet Union.

Slim pickings as usual:
1. Kucinich
2. Dean
3. Kerry
4. Clark
5. Sharpton
6. Braun
7. Gephardt
8. Edwards
9. Lieberman
I think Dean's going to win, unless Clark's or Kerry's campaigns have any suprises left.

what you are saying is you would rather see Al Sharpton as president than Howard Dean
Dean's not a bad guy. He has some crazy left-wing ideas, but not as bad as Sharpton's left wing propaganda.
I'll vote for Dean over Bush, even though I can't stand the far-left.

NYE: In Iran?
DEAN: Iran is a more complex problem because the problem support as clearly verifiable as it is in North Korea. Also, we have less-fewer levers much the key, I believe, to Iran is pressure through the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union is supplying much of the equipment that Iran, I believe, most likely is using to set itself along the path of developing nuclear weapons. We need to use that leverage with the Soviet Union and it may require us to buying the equipment the Soviet Union was ultimately going to sell to Iran to prevent Iran from them developing nuclear weapons. That is also a country that must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons much the key to all this is foresight. Let’s act now so we don’t have to have a confrontation which may result in force, which would be very disastrous in the case of North Korea and might be disastrous in the case of Iran.

Ramo Dean never said former. I don't know if that is positive or negative though, harkening back to that simpsons cartoon:
"
US UN GUY: I thought you guys dropped that whole communism thing.
Russian UN GUY: *Maniacal laughter* thats what we wanted you to think! *presses a switch that turns the Russia sign into a USSR sign, turns several parades of cute animals into tanks and missile launchers, secret walls open up and Soviet troops walk through them and start marching through the city, and finally Lenin breaks out of his coffin, saying "Must... Crush... Capitalism..."*

Stick to the topic and post your anti Bush stuff in one of the many other threads already on that topic

who i can't stand.
joe lieberman: any ass who keeps running for his senate seat at the same time he's running for veep will never get my vote. that, and he hasn't the foggiest about video games, yet wants to govern them.
al sharpton: he can say some catchy things, but i want my reverends to preach in church, and actually have a church. that, and i don't like his race politics.
dennis kucinich: i don't like reverend moon. at all. and kucinich is a white reverend moon who chose politics instead of religion.
carol moseley braun: technologically backwards. all the other candidates have blogs, most of them on movable type. what does she have? static pages. that is so 2000.
---
who i don't really give a damn about, but they're ok in my book.
john kerry: so he's some vietnam vet. he's still boring, but at least he was there.
john edwards: anybody who has his own cable tv show dealing with seances can't be that bad. if i remember right, he uses slashcode on his site. bonus points for that.
wesley clark: he's a latecomer, so he hasn't totally ****ed up yet. he's not very impressive, and he's not very promising, but he hasn't ****ed up.
**** gephardt: establishment. i don't like him, but he's better than the four up there.
howard dean: he's wrong about a lot of things, but he's at least got the balls to say it. he's like kidicious. there's some charm in that. he's also the most technologically savvy of the lot, so he gets points in my book.

I had to actually look at several of their campaign homepages in depth for a Poli Sci paper...
Clark
Dean
Edwards, because he looks like one of the Beach Boys and offers nice, pat, charming blurbs
John "congressional-grade health insurance for all" Kerry
Almost everybody else
Sharpton and Kucinich in some order
I didn't have to look at Lieberman, Gephardt, and the other candidates who are being ignored by the media and thus have basically no chance, so I can't comment on them. Which isn't to say that Sharpton and Kucinich have a chance, but I looked at them voluntarily because they're funny.

alright thats chill Ming
Dean is a closet socialist, Kerry is too old, Edwards doesnt catch anybodys attention. Sharpton is too radical, kucinich is a commie, lieberman is a repug, braun doesnt stand for anything that i can tell is different from the others, gephardt is too pro union, and clark is undefined.
