Ancient units
I updated my ancient units collection. Most of the units are of course from Imperium Romanum, but there are some more that aren´t used anywhere.
Feel free to use them in your scns (an art credit would be nice)...

Oh, and the descriptions are still in German as you see, but it´s not too hard to identify the units I think.

Edit: grrr...

Good work, I especially like the gladiators. A tip: You might consider making Dacian scia and falces units additionally to those two-it'd be more realistic

As usual, excellent work, Bernd!

I see some interesting novelties...

Just a question: which one is the Iberer in the Karthagische row? The third one?

The first and the third, Fiera. The first has this Iberian sword (I forgot the name), like many of these units created after I´ve seen miniatures or pics from the net. Prometeus had a thread last year with some fine links.

Stefan, I found only a few sources about Dacians, so I´m not sure how these scia and falces look...

Yes, the first one bears a falce or falcata, the typical Iberian sword, possibly brought from Iliria in the 8th Century bC.

quote:

Bernd, these units look excellent! You always do such a good job with units; colorful & accurate. Just seeing these inspires me to consider a Roman Empire scenario.

Salutations,

Thanks for the nice comments

Stefan, that quotation is very interesting, I have to admit that I always thought the sica was an Roman invention, and the falce an Iberian...thanks for the info

I wouldn't say that sica and falces were dacian, iberian or roman inventions, it's just a fact that these weapons were quite powerful, and thus used simultaneously in many cultures. And besides; these names are Latin, thus it could be that the Romans just gave these weapons their names.

Excellent looking units BeBro. How come all the great unit and scenario designers are European?

Thanks a lot.
I think your question would initiate a nice debate in the current OffTopic battles between Europeans and Americans... But to be serious, I know several good Americans that make (or made - some seem not longer active )fine scenarios. And after I´ve seen your units I would say you can add a point for the US.

Thanks alot Bebro, that means alot to me since I am just starting out. I too have scene some very good scenario's from Americans who seem to have gone MIA. Maybe they are in rehab recovering from this games peculiar side effects. I am sure most of you know what I am talking about; pasty skin, bloodshot eyes, and overall lack of sleep due to staying up for days at a time trying to put the Macedonians under your thumb. You keep thinking just five more minutes, just five more minutes and I'll go to bed. Then before you know it, it's june and you've flunked out of school.

I'm sorry, I went off on a rant there and ended up in left field. This summer I plan on doing some heavy duty golfing in hopes of countering these effects. What was the topic again? Oh yeah, that's right. "Units", nice units everybody. Keep up the good work. Good-bye.

BeBro, is your Imperium Romanum scenario's scen file called "280bc"?

edit; DOH! No, it's not. The file I'm thinking about is from Westera's Rome 280 B. C. scenario (of course).
