Civ4 Forums?
With Civ4 being announced, how about a special spot for speculation and other stuff?

No, this is evidence that some people need to look at other parts of the site than just the (OT) forum

Hmm. It appears the waiting period between Civ releases is shortening ... now if only Civ III would be ported in its entirety to the Macintosh, I'd be even happier. In the meantime, I might need to buy an el cheapo PC.

The OT is the most important part of the forum. All news should be there.
that seems like a lot of projects to be working on at once. They aren't that big a company are they? I'm cynical, I don't see much greatness happening for civ4. But we'll see. But what it really needs is innovation. And innvoation often starts with one man, or a small group of men. Not a large company.

Well, then I guess the entire staff except Ming and MtG might as well resign our jobs, as we do all our work outside the OT
And even in the main OT page there are 4(!) links to the news in question. Do we need to read it to you? (Oh wait, we already do...)

Not nescessarily. Civ 1 came out in 1991, Civ 2 in 1996, Civ 3 in 2001. Figure Civ 4 is just starting developement. Release date probably Q1 2006, including delays. 5 years will pretty much stick.

Civ4 already announced? Impressive! I for one would have no problem with a new forum.

A forum is premature. I'd use this news to kickstart the Civ: Past/Future forum.

Here is Jeff Briggs' quote on the development cycle:
Quote:
|
"We have three phases of development-prototype, production and final. The prototype phase lasts about a year and the production…we try to keep to about a year. We like to have two things in prototype and one thing in production at the same time. That's makes it possible for us to stagger our releases."
|
From this, I'm guessing, the goal will be a Christmas 2005 release.

I want a civ4 forum
I think that it would be good. We could give them LOTS of ideas early on.

Well, a forum is premature, but we could have a "suggestions" box somewhere in the civ forums.

There have been started a thread in the civ future forum, aiming at making a new "The List".

LOL indeed, with threads in Civ3-General, Civ Gaming General, announcement everywhere, an ACSR announcement and a news item, this should be really hard to miss .

BFG9000 and 2 cents just don't stick together in my mind. I probably played too much in the good old days .

It is great news that Firaxis is thinking about / planning towards a CivIV, but IMO, to have a dedicated CivIV Forum at this time is just to early. I think that once CivIV moves into its development phase, then a decicated forum should be done to give Firaxis a single forum to focus on suggestions/ideas...but to have one right now, I believe, is like putting the cart in front of the horse.

I go always straight to the forums. I noticed the civ4 info after I saw this thread.
Is this a hoax or something?

Goodness, it's been two years since Civ III came out? Time flies! For some reason I was thinking it came out in October 2002 ... I must have been thinking of PtW or something.
BTW, does anyone know where I can get an el cheapo, yet reliable, PC? Any Web sites? Or might it be better to stick with Dell and other such makers (except for Gateway — they can burn in hell forever, IMO)?

Markos, this is a bit OT, but did you know that folks who have the option toggled to "avatars off" just see a little "Buy me!" sign beneath your name?
What's the minimum bid?
