Apolyton/AoW PBEM League?
Sorry to clutter here, but no one posts or even looks into the Art of War forum.

Anyways, I see that a lot of people like PBEM games. I do as well... not only Civilization II, but also Axis & Allies.

So, would anyone be interested in a Civilization II PBEM League at The Art of War? It would be an interesting new idea and concept for The Art of War. We'd come up with some sort of ranking system (all of us knowing that Xin Yu would be on the top ).

I think it would be nice to keep record of all these great games we have here at Apolyton via PBEM. Ranks could be divided into difficulties for regular games and rankings for specific scenario games.

Also, if someone is looking to begin a new PBEM game, they can find players at The Art of War. I'll list e-mail addresses, ICQ numbers (if you have one), and other usefull information that the players will provide.

Best of all, if you're facing a tough enemy in a scenario that has a featured strategy on The Art of War, you can just load the website up and look at the strategy.

Just an idea. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Looks like there is some support.

I think I'll test out how rankings go this weekend.

I already am playing in several, but more would be welcome, so I too would be interested, but only for scenarios. Also, if people are not serious, then don't bother, because it ruins it for everyone else.

Play By Electronic Mail. It's a civ scenario or game played in turns via e-mail.

Similar to my CtP/AC System, right? Why not take mine here, for this is pretty, uhm, usual now, with two games having PBEMs going under my system. Another game under my system it could be.

I think we should start a PBEM game as soon as we can. My vote is for 2194 Days by Captain Nemo. We need at least 2 people, but 5 or 6 would be best.

AMERICANS-Pap
BRITISH-
SOVIETS-
GERMANS-
JAPANESE-
CHINESE-

If anyone is interested respond here with what country they want.

I think this would be a great idea. PBEM games are very nice. I also think it would be better to play only scenarios. But one problem emerges, I don't know of any balanced multiplayer scenario. It would be cool if some good scenarios be made with multiplayer in mind.
Pap1723, I'd like to join also, but I can only play on weekends. Would it be allright? I 'd like to play as germany.

Well as it happens, The Modern Age was designed as a mp scenario. Take a look at it sometime. It's available on the European Civilization II Site.

Alright guys, this is looking promising so far...

We have:

AMERICANS--Pap
BRITISH----CPoulos
GERMANY----Dizepam (weekends only)
RUSSIANS---JMarks
JAPANESE---
CHINESE----

I would like to fill these last 2 spots before we start, and then it would work out perfectly.

I hope you realize that if one player only plays on weekends that the game could literally go on for years!!! PBEM only takes a few minutes out of your day. If you are only a weekend warrior, don't bother with PBEM, because a game will never get finished. Just so everybody understands this. With 5-7 players the pace is usally 1 to 2 days per turn. If one guy only plays weekends, it means a maximum of 104 turns in a year.

OK, CPoulos makes a good point about PBEM's on the weekends. Dizepam, if you can play just a couple of turns a week, then you can stay on as Germany, but if you can't sorry, we'll have to find someone else.

UNITED STATES---Pap
BRITAIN---------CPoulos
RUSSIA----------JMarks
GERMANY---------Dizepam (maybe?)
JAPAN-----------Henrik
CHINESE---------Shaka Nuldur

Get back to me Dizepam, in the meantime, would anyone like to offer to take his place as Germany if he can't make a commitment?

Pap

I can take his place as Germany, I have lots of free time.

Someone will have to explain how a civ2 PBEM game works though, I've never played one before.

Hello everyone
I'd like to play also if there is still room free, but i would also need a lot of explanation of you, since i've never played a so-called PBEM game.
Besides that, I only got the normal 1st version game of Civ II, is that a problem ? and where can i get the scenario you're about to play ? (Yes i'm new here)..
Thanx
Tomas

A thread to propose a PBEM League has turned into a sign-up for a PBEM game. Shows how much we need the League.

Do we have any rules? Like no save-play-reloadifyoudon'tgetyou'reway-play?
Which brings me to another question, how does PBEM work? Does the host start a hotseat game, start his turn, then upload it to the next player? Unless I'm missing something, that seams to be the most plausible way.

Just my two cents.

I guess I will have to explain everything. First off, everyone must have MGE, with the last patch, to avoid problems. I understand that there is a new patch that turns the original civ-2 into Multi-player, but I don't know if it has any bugs. It, and the last MGE patch, can be found at civfanatics. Next thing, the scenario to be played, 2194 days of war, is availible from the scenario league downloads, as well as CSC, both hosted sites that can be reached through the links at the bottom of the forum summary page. Next, the way the game is played is this: The game is started as a multi-player net game. The host and IP are not important, and can be ignored. The first player starts the scenario (I believe it is the Soviets in this scenario), and selects the difficulty level (Prince is best for PBEM), the production level (normal), and makes sure the join players option is toggled. Then the player plays there turn, but make sure you have 'display the end of player turn' option on. When you have moved your last piece, you must press ctrl n, then go to the area where you normally save your game. You will see a new option there, the 'password' option. Make up a password for your civ (But don't forget it, or you can never access your civ again!), then save the game. Then you turn off civ-2, and e-mail the save to the next player on the turn list (which is the order the civs are listed in the selection area). Each player follows the same proceedure, including the unique password. Some other things: Play your turn as soon as possible! It is bad manners to make everybody wait for a slow-poke! If you can't play your turn, tell us, if possible. With this system, it is possible to skip players over, as the AI will move for the absent player for the missing turn. If your not serious about these things, don't waste our time. Remember also, that this is a game, and is ment to be fun, so have a good time doing it.

But in this scenario Japan goes first. So, do we have everything set?

Let's make sure everybody who signed up knows what to do first. If Japan is first, then Henrik will start, which is no problem, since he taught me how to PBEM! The turn list should be put foward, with everybody's e-mail, so contacts are not a problem. When you get the save, place it in your 2194 folder, and then select load a saved multiplayer game. The place to look is in the folder! Everybody who is in, please post about it.
