Fallout 3 is dead :(

More bad news at Black Isle Studios, where lead designer J.E. Sawyer resigned just last month (story), as Farewell, but not goodbye on the Interplay Entertainment Forums (thanks Nels Nelson) is a post from Damien "Puuk" Foletto that indicates that the studio is now shut down, referring to today as his "last day at the (former) BIS." This follows suit with a note sent along by designer John Deiley:
Today marks the end of an era. Black Isle Studios is no more. In yet another sweeping layoff of employees, Interplay has officially let go the last of it's Black Isle employees (save two that I know of) and dissolved the division. Also, the non-announced title that the division was working on, Fallout 3, has been "shelved" to quote management.

That sucks .

Interplay has the rights to the game. If the BI guys hop on to, say, Troika, Interplay could contract them to finish the game... don't think it's likely though, but there's always a possibility. Certainly even Interplay's marketroids realise the potential. Then again, with DX:IW, I'm seriously starting to lose my faith in sequels.

see the other thread - The BI guys are at a startup called obsidian, and are working on a new project with Bioware. Doesnt seem like theyre working with Interplay though.

It will be made, since it is an amazing title. This simply means it'll be made in a decade or so.

Dunno, they plot it and kill it with appalling regularity. All that work building a new engine (Jefferson) and now Van Buren completely wasted so that they can finance a couple more crap console games. Give it a year and all that work will have to be repeated from scratch. Bah. I hope IPLY suits have permanent indigestion. They deserve it

they sank Van Buren? Maybe they should call the console games Tippecanoe and Tyler, too.

I blame consoles for everything.
I am going on a crusade to destroy consoles now. I am going to smash every console I find with a big hammer. even if I have to smash 100 million of them.

I bought Fallout 1&2 in a bargain bin. Such terrible games. The ideas were good but the programming/interface were awful. I worked so long to build up a hand to hand fighter and my reward was constant critical hits for 1 point of damage.

Bah, how can ANYONE say Fallout 1 & 2 were bad games? They are pinnicle of role playing!

I personally couldn't get past the isometric view on it. I'm spoiled when it comes to RPGs (SS2, Morrowind, DX).

Ah, the fond memories... The first time I ever played Fallout, for some reason, I refused to use guns for a while... But I trained up so much in martial arts, that one kick would rip my opponents apart! That was something.

That's a silly reason not to like a game .

How do you figure its silly? I didn't like the isometric view (gameplay). Its a big part of the graphics scheme.
But like I said- most of the other RPGs I've played were FPS or 3rd-person 3d hybrids.

Not liking a game because of its graphics scheme is, IMO, silly. That'd be like hating Civ2 because the graphics sucked for its time (and they did). I play for the gameplay. The graphics are just extra.

I think it's a legitimate reason not to like a game.
I suppose if you grew up on new 3d Games and never played the older games, you might not like them. Fallout is a little bit dated now. But for their time those types of 3rd person views were standard.
And there was nothing wrong with Civ2 graphics when the game came out. Compared to other games of its genre, the graphics were accpetable. Sure they couldn't compare to the graphics of Doom, but it's a completely different type of game.
And that screenshot above is supposed to be real. Check out the Interplay boards.
