Civ and Sid Make Jeopardy!
While watching Jeopardy tonight, one of the categories was "I-I-I-I", where all the answers contained four I's. One of the questions was something like "Sid Meier's popular computer game". Of course, I shouted the answer at the top of my lungs, "CIVILIZATION!!!!!"
Then I heard my neighbor shout, "You didn't say 'What is'!!!"
You know you've really made it when you make a Jeopardy question. Way to go, Sid!

I never answer in the form of a question at home.
And you don't have to in single Jeopardy anyway.

That would freak out some wathcing with you if they never heard of the game. Years back my brother in law was over watching some pretending jeopardy game. It asked who is the father of the 44 mag and I blurted out the name. He freaked out, but I had just read that in a mag a few days before.
I could see your answer flooring a non gamer.

I seen it too! I think the question was "Sid Meier's popular computer game were you have to build an emipre to stand the "test of time."
And the person got it right too!

Yeah, and most surprising is that it was the girl that got it right! Not to sound sexist, but let's face it, Civ isn't exactly a chick-magnet. She probably knew it because her husband/boyfriend ignores her when he's playing it!

Note to Frozzy: The news blurb is incorrect. Jeopardy! gives the answers, and the contestants provide the question. So it would have been something like this:
Quote:
|
"Sid Meier's popular computer game where you build an empire to stand the test of time."
"What is 'Civilization'?"
|

You are so right on about this!!!
My wife was telling some of our friends in the neighborhood how much she hates me playing Civ all the time. My buddy next door told me a paraphrased conversation as his wife relayed it to him.
------------
My wife: "I wish I never bought that stupid Civ game for him...all he does is stay up late and play it!"
Neighbor's wife: "What is Civ?"
My wife: "It short for Civilization. Its a strategy game for the PC where you lead a tribe from the ancient times all the way up to the modern time. You can build cities, military units, city improvements. The most important part is that there is no 'free lunch'. The game is full of trade-offs regarding money, science and luxuries.
Neighbor's wife: Obviously you played this game before.
My wife: No way! Its stupid and boring. The game takes too long, I mean you have go through the ancient era which was like the bronze era...then iron era...copper era is in there somewhere. You go all the way to the modern era building computers, stealth planes, even nuclear weapons! Who wants to pretend to build weapons of mass destruction?
Neighbor's wife: You couldn't possibly know so much about this game without playing it. You can tell me the truth, you must play it with him?
My wife: (look of disgust on face ) Forget it. I wish I didn't bring it up. I hate Sid Meier.
Neighbor's wife: Who?
-------------------------------
My buddy and I were cracking up when he told me this. I have a feeling my wife could get a Civilization question on Jeopardy right despite never playing the game. Couldn't agree with your comment more, Falconius!

It was once said that Microprose contributed greatly to the increase in the divorce rate. I wonder if there were any statistical increases coinciding with game releases?

Why does it say on the front page that it was worth $1,200? Was it a daily double?

I liked Jeopardy more back in the 60's when it started.

Great post SG. And how true!
I heard Jeopardy that night. I was in the shower - and my partner was watching it. She yelled out - "Hey, there was a question about Civilization just on. And the woman got the answer." She was proud of her gender - sort of in a " see what we have to go through" kind of way.
And to answer the question above - yes, the dollar value of the questions on Jeopardy have been doubled.
And to Sid and Civ ....
