AI will one day be truly intelligent. In 40 years? Probably not.
It's 3AM, so i'll come back to this thread tomorrow, but this is what I'm studying in college

that was an interesting article uber
but what about other forms of computing, such as processors based on light instead of electrons or on other quantum principles? how distant in the future would a function/superior computer of that type be?

Computers: Nothing to fear, unless you get some seriously Uber programmer to create Skynet.
What you have to watch out for is that stuff to connect a human brain directly to the internet, I.e. Cybernetics.
Once you do that, then you only need a sufficiently powerful human mind and you can override all the security systems, fire all the nukes and generally make **** happen.
It'll be interesting to see Humanity in the Bionic age.

That is entirely possible, but highly unlikely fabricated in silicon. Newer materials needed to be used.

Optical computers are facing a tough problem now. There is no optical equivalent of a transistor, so you cannot amplify signals. Until that is solved, there won't be any optical computers. Quantum computers are interesting in principle, though they are also castle in the sky at the moment.

The faster they go and the more parts you have the more things can go wrong. yeah 6 months sounded a little to fast considering i had a 500 mehz pc in 99 so that would be 500 to the 8th power which my new pc isnt near that fast. I was only off by a year that cant throw my caculations of to much right? . what will the world be like when Im 80?

If they can be solved, you will still be limited by physical laws (the real stuff).

Did you intentionally rename Moore's Law to be Gordon's Law, or was this a rather misguided attempt to show your high-and-mighty knowledge of the man's first name, though no one ever calls it Gordon's Law? And when you're posting in a thread with non-tech geeks, why would you use an abbreviation like IC? Perhaps you should be more concerned with accuracy about what you say rather than trying to sound intelligent. Just a thought.

Asher, did anybody ever told you that you are exceptionally dull and boring, even by geek standards?

I guess Moore's Law applies here as well.
