I'm pretty sure Umbar was one. Don't remember the other one.

The other is Lond Daer. (west of Isengard)

The Grey Havens. There's another one at the mouth of Anduin, but the name escapes me. Andurail or something like that, maybe?
|
Actually, I don't know if Pelargir was originally an elf haven. The one I was thinking of is Edhellond, which is at the mouth of the river above Dol Amroth.

Sam Gamgee. Check out the translation appendix. It turns out that Frodo's Westron name is "Froda" and Merrys is "Kalimac Brandagumba".
PS. I can't remember the name of the dwarf. He was a petty-dwarf, was he not?

Excellent in that case. Some of the questions were from Lost Tales and Unfinished Tales, so you can't be faulted for those.

Yeah, they are good and that is one of the best stories. My favourite is "The Fall of Gondolin". One day I will read the rest of the History of Middle Earth Series. But I don't have the time right now.
Poor old Turin....
Anyway, I'm orf to bed. Goodnight.

One more thing.
ROTK won't win the Oscar for two reasons.
1. It's a cut down version of the real film, which will be the extended edition. The Two Towers EE was so much better than the cinema cut and made a lot more sense. The FOTR EE was less so, but still better than the movie cut. Most of your complaints about the directing will be assuaged in the EE.
2. The whole trilogy is a big "up yours" to Hollywood. Imagine, a New Zealander (where's that by the way?) takes a stack of money from a Hollywood studio and says, "I'm going home to make the movies, leave me the **** alone."
He then chooses fine actors who aren't really big stars and many of whom are not recognizable in the US (Bernard Hill is a good example, if you haven't seen his early work, do so).
He then uses his own effects company which ends up simply blowing the **** out of anything done by Hollywood (during ROTK I basically forgot that Gollum was CGI) - even though some effects are better than others. The CGI battle scenes are a revolution in cinema.
And he manages to make a film out of a book which was widely regarded as unfilmable.
It's a big middle finger to the Hollywood system and it shows that all they're good for is financing.
There's no way this upstart will win any of the big awards.

Yeah, but Hollywood always bows to the dollars, and they love epics and costume dramas.
I think there will be one major award (movie, director)and several "minor"/technical awards (makeup, costume, FX, sort of thing).
Nothing succeeds like success.

Wow. I was skimming Unfinished Tales & the appendicies of LotR last night, and I wouldn't have done as well as Drake did.
I would have gotten Utummo and Angband, though. Though not Thangorodim (sp).
Here's one I have trouble remembering (and only do now because I read it last night): what is the name of the 2nd strongest Nazgul, the one who runs Dol Goldur for Sauron?

By the way, speaking of Dol Goldur, can anyone tell me what happened to it?

After the Ring was destroyed a force of orcs was repelled at Lothlorien. Celeborn and Galadriel crossed the Anduin and assaulted Dol Gol-Dur, with Galadriel throwing open the gates and laying the pits bare. In the appendixes.
And I thought The Witch-King ran Dol Gol-Dur in Sauron's absence?

No. It was Kamul (or is it Kamil). The Witchking ran Minas Morgul. Kamul ran Dol Goldur (after Sauron left there and re-entered Mordor), and had 1 other Nazgul there with him as a messenger.

I know the Witch-King ran Minas Morgu, but I thought there was also a time when he ran Dol Gol-Dur.
