OK, all you lurkers! You know who the players are. Look at the map and try to pick the winner.
Will it be atawa with his lush French civ and ports full of Dreads?
Or Zylka the great fighter expander?
Or Makeo with his civ nestled in the Upper Nile?
Or Ljube/ozzy as the diplomatic Greeks in the heart of the world?
Or Dangime as the strong and steady Roman builders expanders?
Or deity with his dumbos rolling through Spain and Rome?
But for me the wild card is Dylan Baker whom I've not heard of. Welcome to diplo land Dylan where your dreams become reality!!
LOL
Come on lurkers, place your bets!
For me, I think if Makeo plays his cards right he has an excellent chance in this. And atawa as the French has to be one of the best bets. If Zylka gets a war machine going that has a tech advantage he could do well. If Dang is allowed to grow he'll be dangerous. If Ljube starts off the Greeks with ICS strat I'm not sure how this will go.

I've created a new City.txt file that we could add to the final modpak. Because Carts have taken the Indian slot it picks the Indian ciy names. I've changed that to Cart city names and fixed it so Rome is Romans first city etc...
Let me know if you want me to add it to the modpak Zylka; or any other customisatioin anyone wants.
The Wonder names Dang proposed in the latest rules.txt look pretty good too!

Nice post, D
My bet will have to go with the Ljube/Ozzy combo for a (by mid game) dominant world force, there's a lot of big city room in that north eastern portion of the map - and I put a lot of worth in the tactics of both these players.
Neighbour interaction between the builders of Makeo and deity are something to watch closely as key variable in their own growth as powers. Frank is always a brilliant influence in any game worth more dominance than what he'll talk up - yet his own slender terrain in this scenario is definitely significant enough a hurtle for anyone to jump.
Although I am honestly not a war machine in entirety, only as sitution warrants - atawa is another to be feared on the fields of battle with much of the same gameplay style from 2x monger days. Dylan is an incredibly intelligent and capable player from outside circles who only needs a bit of time to become accustomed to the rather harsh and unforgiving building standards of the 1x mp world.
Have not had the pleasure of seeing most of these players operate extensively in more modern eras, though - so any full out guess is as good as a newcomer's. So guys.. spill the beans for us

"Song of Roland" was an especially witty pick.
Are there 3 different graphic styles of classical cities we can mix in to make things a little more interesting visually? Find something like that and include it with your city.txt if possible

Ok.. I'm doing basic warping of the classical city drawings to give us 4 easily distinguishable yet different forms to enhance things visually. Here's a quick peak at the inluded flags - with an SPQR for Frank and a Dumbo for Dumbo

I'm available this saturday morning, preferring to either start as late or as early as possible.
Can you change my civname to Gauls btw?
Looking forward to this game

One more request, can you change my startinglocation to 41/9? If we start at historic positions Lutetia seems most logical.

We're not doing Gauls, bro - that was decided against a while ago.
Here's part of a graphic mod almost done btw - more classical themed arid civilizations. Not quite Spanish, not quite Babylonian, not quite papyrus Egyptian - but somewhere in between. Now I start on the Carthage graphic just for you, froppy boy!

Looking good Zylka. I take it you will come up with the new and completed cities.bmp or cities.gif file then?
I can't seem to successfully copy and paste from the posted graphics. BTW, it's stroppy NOT froppy! LOL
This is my current city.txt file.
Did you say no to atawa's request? We've been customising most other starts haven't we?

Just looked at 41/9 and this strengthens French civ. It takes them down a river system so the original start above is automatically 'owned' as backfill. I think the consensus is that the French start with a good player should be harder not easier!
But hey, I leave that up to Zylka and ozzy to argue about

The French start won't be moved for that very reason.
Don't copy from that image though, it's a poor quality gif. You'll owe me when you see the Carts own specialised city graphic.

Well I was looking forward to this game and unlike Hotw4 I had a civ I wanted to play, but if I agree to play Rah will be short one more person for his Friday night games and we were already down to 3 regulars with Zylka filling in for Barono or as a 4th. So if I play I'm afraid Rah's game will fall apart and since y'all have a 7th I'll just keep playing in Rah's games although I'm getting really frustrated with the consistently bad starts.
Btw, I really liked the Babs potential in this one, monarchy by 2250 BC, nice river system, and plenty of land up north for expansion... But given how Atawa whooped us in that previous game, I'd say he is the favorite. The civs in the middle have more dis-advantages than advantages, so depending how good Dylan is, he might give Atawa a run for his money... Makeo is in the running for 2nd or 3rd since he's far enough off the beaten path to have time to build and if he can suppress the Babs he will be in the running.

Alright, Frank... I'm not quite done, would like to do a Versailles hinting classical for the Medieval - but in any case I tried putting this in the scenario folder and it mentioned a stack error of some sort before crashing civ2. I did these mods by PSD and then resaved it as a gif. Tell me if you know what's wrong so I might finish, thanks

What about barbarians and huts?
I suggest barbarian wrath and I would like to see huts.
An interesting idea would be to add many barbarian cities, like in HOTW4, except more cities this time.

Please comment my suggestion to slow down science. In HOTW4, we have automobile and it's around 1300 AD. Do you really consider this realistic?
On the other hand, if we slow down science, there will be fewer discoveries at the beginning. One civ might decide to go for some advanced military tech, while the other would beeline for monarchy. The second builder civ may not be so comfortable with this choice if they knew that military discoveries may take a long while to research later.
In fact, by slowing down the rate of scientific discoveries we can effectively provide a choice in the initial strategy. With regular science rate there is absolutely no choice, no alternative path of development if a civ doesn't want to fall behind desperately.

Babs have by far the best land in the game, just expand northwest from start and fill in the north and east later.
And I can certainly understand Zylka's motives for making me start on the pole, if he takes that area north of the Pyrenees and the Cote d'azur witch is now likely to happen the Gauls will be locked up in their little corner of the world.

Just thought of something, can I have a flag with a Menhir on it?
Playing Gauls it would be nice to have a flag customized for them and not just the normal French flag.

Asking for quite a bit for a lippy little newcomer with what's already regarded as the best starting position. I can understand your motivations for asking otherwise, as well - and it's definitely not "historical". Get in line and have fun, Frenchy.
