Here it is what I've got in mind, but if you've got a better idea...
For now I'm only talking about the main menu... the in-game will come later.
The menu is in the resolution 800x600 with 32 bit color
What style you chose to use is up to you, since I've got no sense of style... just try to give it a nuclear war feeling...
And it would be great if you could make two appearences of all buttons: default and clicked (and if you want hover pictures too, feel free to do so )
Login:
When the game starts a "box" should appeir where you can enter your nick-name (Should have a text-box like appearance, but not look like a text-box if you know what I mean... like they've always have in games... Above this "text-box" a small text should say something along with "Enter your nick"...
Just benieth this box there should be a small check-box looking thing (2 pictures: checked, unchecked) with the text "Remember me" or something like that.
At last there should also be an "Ok" button (and if you want to, feel free to add an "Exit" button)
Main:
The menu-bar should be of the following buttons:
"Host Game"
"Join Game"
"Hi-score" (or "Highscore", or whatever)
"Credits"
"Logout"
"Exit"
The menu-bar should probably be visible all the time and be at the left side of the screen
Host Game:
In the center+right side of the screen it should now be possible to have a list of all joined players, with some green/red flash to show if the players are ready or not. Just next to this flash there should be enough room to write the nicks of the joined players...
Maybe having a kick botton at the end of each player-line
Of course there should also be a "Start game" button somewhere near the botton...
I'll just leave it there for now... How advanced you want it to be, is up to you...

Slowly. I played with some rough ideas.
Mrs Jamski still being on holiday till Monday is cutting down my free time + I still need to reinstall my graphics apps. (Not that it will take long to reinstall, its just getting round to doing it, and not posting on 'poly or "talking" to Mrs Jamski)
I'll make some blank buttons, and you can then put the text in later.

Yeah, I know the problem getting around installing all those apps... usually it takes up a month or more whenever I reinstall windows
And the blank buttons idea sounds good, makes it alot easier

I just got the socket working (finally)... have been busy all week... I'll do some more work on the game tonight (gotta do some homework first)...

I'll fiddle around with some graphics and see what I can come up with. Don't expect it to be too professional looking, though.
Although I'm a bit confused with how you want me to make "before and after" images of the buttons and such. I'll just be sure to do everything in seperate layers so it can be sorted through however you want...

I attached a version of the game there... it shows how I'm thinking about the "before and after" images of the buttons...
It might be a good idea to just make one button with enough room for me to put a label into
If you could come up with a background image first it would be nice... buttons are second priority at the moment (I prefer to have a feeling on where everything should be...

Heh... I've never tried any sort of graphics design like this before. I don't think it's too bad, considering I had to improvise with the stock plug-ins to give the borders and stuff 'depth'. But I think i can do it a bit better...
Prototype #1:
I threw ming in there to give it that 'apolyton touch'. But, er... what's the title of the game? I don't even know what I'm making these for (haven't read any of this thread at all). But I would put the title down there at the bottom and the buttons would go on the menu to the right. I haven't tried making any of them yet.

It's just that, that' back of head thing' looks quite similar to a bomb as far as shape is concerned.

I don't think I get what you're saying.
Do you mean that you want me to make the menu panel on the bottom instead of the right? Or reduce it to a single 'button' that you would use to make it pop up, or something?

I've tried merging faces with nuclear explosions before, and it's always turned out really bad. The last time I tried it the mushroom cloud ended up looking like a red afro.
Anyways, here's another version to show where the title will go. I've never been good at doing text, but here's what I've been toying with so far...
Any kind of fonts or ideas you want to recomend for the title?

How about a kind of "stencilled" font like on millitary equipment, and make it a light transparacy laid accross the picture?
