Battle Of The Bands
Spec has a thread going on "Greatest Bands".
Maybe he can take some ideas from it and continue the Battles.
How about it, Spec?

Vinegar Joe, The Ramones, Dada, Roxy Music (with Brian Eno) David Bowie and the Spiders From Mars, circa early 1973, Talking Heads (either when they released 'Fear of Music', or touring after 'Remain in Light'), the Patti Smith Group touring after 'Horses' came out, or after 'Easter' came out, Queen circa 'A Day at the Races' tour, Magazine when they released 'Real Life', Miles Davis's band for 'L'Ascenseur au l'echaffaud' or '*****es' Brew', Gil Scott Heron and the Midnight Express on tour in 1984, the Rolling Stones circa 'Exile on Main Street', ....

Say it like that and you would be correct. I had to vote for Zep, as they're the greatest band of all time, but I love The Who, so they get an honorable mention. Floyd is good as well, but not quite on par with the other two.

Bob Dylan isn't a band and the Beatles and Rolling Stones, while probably the two most important bands in history, weren't really that great of musicians, at least when compared with the guys in Led Zep. Zeppelin has an influence that rivals or possibly exceeds that of the Beatles or Rolling Stones, plus all the members were amazing musicians. That's why I rank them #1.

yes page/bonham!!/jones were better musicians than the others, but the beatles and stones made better albums and wrote more great songs than zeppelin.

That's probably true. Zeppelin still had a **** load, though.

I don't know about that. I love the Beatles, but I can only think of a couple of their albums that rival Led Zeppelin II or IV.
Not a big Stones fan, so can't really comment on them.

I love Led Zeppelin.
I think The Who was a decent band. I like Behind Blue Eyes a lot.
I think Pink Floyd is a bunch of overrated grating bullshit that hurts my brain to listen to (with the exception of Comfortably Numb... I really like that song)

I don't think any zeppelin album can compare with sgt. peppers or revolver. Not to mention the white album or abbey road or rubber soul.
Then the stones...... just listen to exile... over and over and over and over and over and over; in fact I'm going to go listen to it now. Then there's sticky fingers, beggars banquet and of course let it bleed. And then there's all those brian jones era albums. So so many great lyrics, riffs, songs, albums.....

Do you mean the Eurovision Song Contest? I don't think they ever participated. I guess it would be too controversial to let such an evil band play
Edit: I mean, just look at the guy in the middle. Pure demonic evil!

Where's the banana option? Or at least a "none of the above". Technically, Led Zep would win. Personally, I'd rather switch the stereo off. I can appreciated that they were talented musicians, but not my sort of music.
Saying that, I do like Stairway to Heaven and Whole Lotta Love

I don't think putting the Beatles against anyone would work.
These 3 are from roughly the same time period, and are related in my mind.
Like I said at the onset, it could be the first of many Battles.
Oedo, for one, named quite a few bands.
Group them smaller.

Actually, I have to say, I founds them a bit much live. Admittedly I wasn't in the pit at the time, and Toxicity was great, but the rest of the act was a but so so. Especially with all the ****ing bottles thrown. Everyone throwing empty drinks bottles at everyone else, which with a crowd of almost 100,000, makes a hell of a lot of bottles!
