Its a never ending vicious cycle with that donut addict.
He ALWAYS wants more donuts so he will continue to extort you for all the donuts you are worth.
So he delays satisfying your demands in the hopes you will continue to pump him full of donuts on his way to his "donut heaven".
It really is sick and he needs to get some help.
Maybe we should all pitch in and help him get a stomach staple or something.

I'm thinking of the impact if/when Paddy and or you go to a more normal schedule in say, six months.
If all the games are finished and you are still in the ancient era, what do the rest of us do? Have another tournament while we wait?
The overall impact on the entire tourney is why I am speaking up. If start positions are the concern, then it should be easy enough for the games to be restarted with a proper, in agreement with the rotation of the Earth, player order that preserves the starts.

Man, you guys have no patience.
Here are the updated players list for games 1 & 2.
Game 1
Conqueror 2
ADG 1
Rommel2D -6
predesad -6
Game 2:
Iron Jackson 1
conmcb25 0
GhengisFarb -6
Soltz -8
These games are being set up right now. Conqueror and Iron Jackson can expect a save within the hour.
Game 4 will continue as is, for now. If the players wish to reconsider, I will generate a new map with a new playing order.
Game 5 already has it's first participant: Beta. He's the only new player I've recieved a password from.

A simple way to let all of this clear itself up would be to keep the championship round a four-player game, consisting of the first four winners to finish from the first round. If the group can't sustain their bravado through the entire tourney, it won't slow the rest down. If they can, the less motivated group(s) will be out.
Never mind empty conjecture, the proof would be in the pudding...

Well, I'm only half serious, but...
I have yet to be in a PBEM game that came close to finishing except for one where a few people just decided to drop out, apparently because it was dragging on. I see the tournament structure as an incentive for players to speed the games along and make things a little more exciting. Adding more games to the tournament and running them in reverse just frustrates that end.
I hear about how this game moved along at a good clip for a while, or how well these three turns have gone, but after investing a number of months into this, that's not going to impress me if I'm left high and dry waiting for the last first round game to finish. Just because someone might drive around the Brittish countryside for a few days on the right side of the road without being in an accident doesn't mean they should move to London and continue the practice.
But don't mind me, the bar was out of Leinenkugels tonight, so I ordered a pitcher of Fosters. I'm in an understandably pissy mood.
[edit:why can't I spell tournament???]

Rommell, take that Fosters back. We Aussies don't drink the stuff. But if you are already well into the case, I hope you are enjoying it.
I understand what you say about games just stopping, yet, with the sheer numbers of players here that play PBEM so often, surely (not Shirley) we will get some good games, and possibly some really fast ones with blood and guts manoeuvrers to win at all costs,,,

Yes, that's what I'm afraid of too.

Although my start is rather mediocre, that's not the reason why I disliked this game. It's the "the damage is done, but let's stick it out" attitude of my game-mates, while it was still time to get it right, or even to defend it by stating, that an east-east-east-east turn order is just as good as a west-west-west-west one . I won't slow down this game deliberately. But overall I tend to care less about games I dislike and if I return from work and have a bunch of games to play, they are usually the last.

Such a pessimist...
As I already pointed out, if everyone or even half could only play at one specific time of day, then your East to West routine would be better. There's no doubt about that. But, since Paddy, ET and myself can play a different times, each day, then we don't have a problem.
But since you are threatening to put this game on your back burner, so to speak, I will oblige you in asking Oct to restart the game with each person in their same start location and Civ but with your revised turn order. The game has not gone that many turns that restarting it would be too much of a waste.
Oct: Can you please restart game #4 with the correct turn order as lined out my Sir Ralph. Please keep everyone in their same start location's and with their respective Civ's. Thanks.
Paddy & ET: Will you give your blessings for this action?

I don't think my pace was a problem so far. And if I have a bunch of games waiting, one of them has to be the last no matter what I do. If it makes you feel better: At the moment it's the Naval game I play last, not because I dislike it, but because it's by far the most work-intensive, with turns that last 30-60 minutes. And the expected low pace is only a small part of my dislike. The much bigger part is, that it is played with a game in a sorry, unfinished state.

Sigh, What ever will have the best bet of making this game have the endurance to stay going...
Although, I have just finished my 4th turn, in less than 3 days on this and had figured atleast 1 more turn before the "day" is out. But What ever will please our German friend.
Go 'head Oct. lets get this game going, in one form or another

I think under these circumstance it's better if you restart the game without me. With this attitude in the game, I don't think it will turn out fun. And fun is the only reason I am playing at all. All else is called "waste of time".
All I did so far was meant to improve the chance of the game to last long and be enjoyable. I have started a lots of PBEM games in the last year, and most of them were stalled or died at some point, because people didn't care, suddenly disappeared and so on. Not a single, and I repeat: not a single of these games died because I didn't play in time. Ask anyone in the games I play, if I am a slow player. You hardly will find anyone who'd say this, at least being serious.
I don't think I want to stay in a game, where the other participants feel that they have to change their rules to please me. If you want to restart, do it please without me. The damage to the game has been done in turn 1. Since the majority decided to continue, so be it. It will go slower than it could, but be by far not the slowest game I'm in. The main problem (beta quality and expected rule changes which will impact the early game as well) remains in any way.
