Wittlich, we have the same question in tourney two. It might be an issue if its done in some games, but not others.
I have the unfortunate situation of being in two PBEM games, tourney 2 and tourney 3 concurrently.

Well, I'm in a butt-load of PBEM games and now starting Tourney 3...but your point is well taken Shogun.
Any advise Markos?

Could we create some leeway regarding tournament times for the Christmas Eve and Christmas holidays?
Thanks.

This REALLY isn't an answer.
Take for instance my first match: We agree to use the patch. Fine.
My second round: My opponent refuses to use the patch....now where are we at?!?
If this is an Apolyton Tourney, then rules need ... nay, MUST be set up.
If we are going to participate in a "tourney" and the use of a game's patch is left up to the individuals with the controlling body (ie Apolyton) not caring one way or the other.....well fine.
If this is the case, remove myself from this "per se" Tourney. If Apolyton can't worry about the small stuff, than neither can I.
Everyone else, enjoy yourselves and Happy Holidays!!

I agree. We should just all use the patch. It's been released; why wouldn't we use it?

I like the use of "nay"
Here's my version.
Thou shalt go henceforth and employ said patch...o'er, and o'er again. If thy digress, perchance fail in thy endeavor, thou wilt be cast out of this, the nobelest of tourneys. So remain strong, my brother, remain true to the path of the patch. It is your holy grail.

I concede to Swissy. During play last night he successfully fended off my attacks after another close start. I came up with what I felt is an original solution to a losing position, but... I don't think I will make him play it out. Also, I will not be able to continue until after Christmas. That is time that could be used for round 2.
AAR and novel approach to war mongering gone bad can be found here:

PS. I think that MP rules might mention something about my tactic. I did it because I try to never say die, and there was very little else I thought I could do at that point. I was also interested to see just how many units I could get going. However, It is an abuse of the game mechanics. I think.

i thought i'd give you guys more flexibility in playing and enjoying yourselves, especially as the patch has just gone public and noone had tested it. i dont know how you got the feeling that i dont care about you. i really do deeply care about everyone in this "tourney"
let me know if you still have a problem with this. merry xmas

I have installed the Beta patch....but given that we don't know if there will be issues with one person using the patch and the other not...I believe I will be sitting this tourney out.
Markos, since jpotter asked to join the tourney, can you replace me with him? Thanks.

Jesse explained how to be able to switch between patched and unpatched. It is very easy to do.

as some have already characterized me as lazy i havent looked up the word "leeway" in the dictionary before responding. i've put 6 days for each round especially due to these special days. i can understand spending time with family over civ(hmmm ) but at least i would like to see people posting that they have indeed arranged games so that other people who have already played are not waiting for nothing
thanks

Shogun Gunner and myself may end up playing today, though perhaps later in the weekend. I will sign in to #Apolyton periodically today and the next few days to see if I can catch him online, as I mentioned by PM.

Man - who said these MP games were quick? I had a marathon session with Snotty, and now this. Motown Dennis and I will need to continue our game. He is the Persians, and I am the Romans. The AI's were Zulus and Mongols - two of the more peace loving folks.
Motown D clearly has a lead at this point - from a culture, tech, and economic perspective. But militarily, I am holding my own. His early foray with Immortals was repulsed by Roman Legionnaires.
He continued to goad the Mongols into attacking me - and after some length of time, I have buried the Mongols. He has now convinced the Zulus to go to war against me.
I launched an assault with 3 armies and various other units against a size 10 city. Came within one unit of taking the city. Had to pull back and lost three trebuchets.
Have recently made a naval landing further back in his territory - but he has cavalry already. Yikes.
I have just completed Zeus - already outdated. Does not look overly promising, but I am not ready to throw in the towel. I have overcome a mediocre start, two huts with barbs right at the start, several massive barb uprisings in my back field, a couple of very noob mistakes (including letting my treasury run out twice - costing me two barracks), some bad rng rolls with archers vs warriors, and holding off attacks from two civs at a time - I am going to see where this one goes.
We will need to schedule the continuation. My parents are coming for a number of days. Man, do I have some entertainment planned for them.

Yes, I seem to have an advantage in this one, but like Beta said, it's far from over.
I got pretty lucky early with 2 SGL's (from Horseback Riding and Philo) and used them to build the Pyramids and Oracle. This allowed me to expand quickly and take a big points lead. I had to work for my iron, as it was closer to the Zulu capital than it was to my own. Overall, though, my land is pretty good. I am also enjoying benefits from having built the Great Library and Hanging Gardens.
Like Beta said, I continually got the Mongol AI to declare war on him, but alas, Beta crushed them. I had good luck in getting the SGL's, but Beta has had some good luck too with 3 or 4 MGL's. I pooped when I saw 3 armies coming at me, but I fought them off for the time being (by the way, I had more than one unit left in that city ).
I'm hoping my tech lead (and my cavalry) will lead to Beta's ouster from this one. It's been a good game so far; we'll see what happens when we continue.

I think it's time we setup our game Markos.
I won't make it today and the last chance is to start it tomorrow.
That's OK, if we start it by the afternoon.
But I will really have lot of time to finish it off at Tuesday so how about? Start Sunday afternoon, play for a while and finish it at Tuesday?

Shogun Gunner,
Never saw you online yesterday, so we'll see if we can play today. I'm helping my parents strip wallpaper at their house today, so I won't be around until probably the afternoon or early evening, but if we're both online, we should start our match. If you could PM me times of availability, we might even be able to work out a specific time.
Thanks.

I hope...
In the thread created to register to the tournament, I had posted mz availability. I don't know wh< my name is still in the list because it was obviously impossible ofr me to play in the 6 days following the strat of the tournament. But anyway, forgive me for the inconvenient. I'll play as soon as I'm back in Brussels, where my computer is. McMeadow, give me some news...

D'oh!
As I just PMed, I had to play the Inter-Site Democracy Game save last night for the team. I should be available throughout today. I'll try to idle in #Apolyton periodically throughout the day, so you can catch me in there I hope.

Hmm, jpotter never responded to my PM about setting up a time. Now I'm up in Northern California until January 4th without Civ 3 access (AHHH!). I think I may have to withdraw from the tournament due to time constraints and unavailability
