OK - tonight I reloaded and played a 6 player (all humans) MP epic game that was saved pre-patch. We didn't notice any ill effects and it played fine.
Not sure I like the change to the Forbidden Palace, although my tech progression and cash flow (in industrial era) seemed to be similiar to what it was pre-patch.

Why exactly is this patch called 'Beta' ?
(I don't suppose it is named after Beta from Apolyton )

simple: the community wanted a patch with the most important bugs fixed (some of us even begged for it!), but the changes hadn't passed the quality tests needed to release it as an official "full" patch.
so it was declared beta and released.
perfect for us, because we got what we wanted (thanks again to all involved) and good for the programmers and publishers, because we havn't got the right to whine about new bugs because beta doesn't promise stability

Because it wasn't sent to their (Atari's and Firaxis')testers yet to see if it works.

beta
It was sent to the Atari testers (had 19 testers last Monday & Tuesday and a smaller team the 3 weeks before) but without full localizations, release installer, and my being confident that it deserves a release stamp, I'm going to continue to use Beta as a Warning Label for now.

For some reason, I can't download the patch. Server busy, etc. Could someone (a nice person ) with a cable moden, ISDN, or something like that send me the patch by e-mail? I'm asking too much, I know, but...
aroeira @ ism . com . br (eliminate all the spaces - I'm trying to scape from the spam robots... )
Thanks in advance

It's 14.7 MB. Can your mailbox handle that? (Can mine?)

Hi, BFM!
In my case, yes. I have a cable modem. In your case... In general, if you have a high-speed conection, your mailbox can handle it.
But I really can't tell... I don't want to crash your smtp provider or something.

Forgive my ignorance, Jesse (or anyone else who knows), but why would I want to "switch between versions"; and WHAT versions? Doesn't this patch go right into the game, replacing those things that are flawed or whatever?
Why wouldn't I just download the patch and execute it, same as any other patch?

Yes many of us would do it that way. A few reasons exist for being able to switch. People in MP games where others don't have access to the patch. You have problems with the patch and do not want to continue to use, it is after all a beta.

no, don't worry, this so-called beta patch is perfectly alright and is a lot less buggy then the previous, not-beta version.
the only instability issue is selecting random civ for multiplayer.
i think i can speak for most if i recommend this patch...
btw: the next patch mid january will be beta too according to jesse smith (see about 10 posts above). the first official patch will also be the final one a will come out around Q2/2004...
EDIT: after seeing that the corruption bug is still around, this post may seem a bit too positive

jesse,
the corruption bug seems to not have been fixed in every case (see uberkrux's and my bug not in the 1.12b buglist thread.
please incorporate this fix in the next patch (january?) as priority 1, as most other bugs are minor.
thanks for all your work!

Please see Dactyl's and my posts in the bug list for a not-so-minor complaint: disappearance of ability to build musketmen when we clearly have saltpeter source(s).

The info here is misleading in some respects, since the new beta patch is standalone.
Everyone, if you are confused about the patches see:
http://www.apolyton.net/forums/showt...hreadid=106681
Just install Civ3, then Conquests, then the 1.15 patch for your language version.

They upgraded the 1.15 to be inclusive. When it first came out you had to have all of the previous patches.
