I HATE this!!!!
What the heck is up with massive increase in ads? What is DanQ and MArkG not making enough money already so now I have to get an ad with every single mouse click? I also don't find it helpful that they make me watch an ad for 15 seconds every time I click on an outside link.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to minimize or eliminate these ads? A pop up blocker will work for the pop ups but what about the redirect ads you get when clicking a link?

So I've downloaded a program called pop up stopper and it blocks all of the pop ups but it leaves a message telling me that it's blocked the pop up. This message is almost as annoying as the pop ups themselves.

IIRC, we have talked about this before.
Anyway,, the most of us thought this was a better idea than pop ups and another kinds of ads

Take a deep breath and count to ten. It'll help your blood pressure, AND let people start to listen to you seriously.
(1) If they were doing great and swimming in riches, then, they wouldn't have put them in. Do you think they hate you on purpose or something?
(2) You're not supposed to be getting them on every page. Make sure cookies are on, or try a different forum style.
(3) Did you see this great little link called "Skip"?
(4) Apolyton does not gain revenue from blocked pop-ups.

Not being a bootlicker or something, but both Markos and Dan have been working hard for the site, so if they make some money from it, great
Besides, they have also been quite responsive with our requests. Like the UGO thing some time back, and the problem with Gator, and so on.

Hmm. All I know is that if some advertiser's ad doesn't come up, forums won't load. My browser will sit there with the message, "Attempting to connect ..." or somesuch message. When I tell it to stop, the page will only partially load (up to the point where it sent the request for the non-responding advertiser's ad).
I had to use a back door approach to get into the forums tonight.

HACK APOLYTON!!!!one!
those click through ads are EXTREMELY annoying. can you at least modify them to show up once an hour or something?
also, in-site links (to other poly pages) shouldnt have the click through ads at all, IMHO.

"http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=104786" Here is a test link without the forwarding ads.
Edit: It doesn't seem to work. Can somebody give me a quick lesson in ahref?

Use a decent browser like Mozilla, Mozilla Firebird or Opera. No need for add-ons.
But, even though I use Firebird both at work and at home, I've put Apolyton in the list of sites which always display pop-up windows. It's the least I can do to support this wonderful site.

I'm sure this is stupid but from reading this I am a little confused.
What does it take for pop up adverts to make money for the site and what is it based on?
Is it each time that it pops up?
Do you need to folllow the link?
It seems as though certain interface styles get less pop ups. Does this impact on revenue?

I'm with Alex. Don't mind the popups...we are using this site completely free of charge.

Yep, although I do think you have to leave it open for a few seconds.

Not certain, but Poly does get money if you buy from Amazon for example after having followed the link.

If we had an option to pay to avoid popups, the admin would have a point. As it is though, we don't have any choice at all. Either we are forced to put up with popups, or we are forced to make Poly poorer by denying it any income from us.

If you want to still help the site while still downloading the google toolbar, I recommend changing you viewing style to seeing images out of threads (that's what I do) and so when I click on images, I see ads! and help the site!
Since I run a modem, this is a more practical way for me to financially support the site!

I think it would be entertaining if every 20th popup wasn't an ad but just something silly to replace the nonexistent quotes after posting.

why can't you just have an ad in place of those quotes when you post?

cause the redirect pages are in similar function to an autoreloaded page and ads on such pages are not allowed by our ad providers...

What I don't get is why it worked with less ads in the past, but now, it seems like you need at least one ad for each single thing you in this forum, be it a download, a PM or anything else.
This is definately going too far. A little bit of adding on this site is allright, but it is now behaving almost like my mailbox, which has about 70 spam emails per day.
