It's quite simple actually...
During our Golden Century (the 17th century) we had the first republic in our part of the world, the so called Republic Of The Seven Provinces. One of those provinces was called Holland and it was the most influential, mostly because Amsterdam was THE city during that time period. Since most of the rest of the Republic was still a backward agricultural dump the name Holland became a synonime (sp?) for the whole country.
But now, over 300 years later the name Holland still haunts us Dutch that are not living in said province (now divided in two, Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland). We resent being called Hollanders and anyone from Amsterdam who doesn't care ought to be shot.
Have a nice day
Hueij (proud to be Dutch)

Hehe... the pride comes from this inferiority complex. Small country surrounded by big ones. The only thing we care about during the next Euro Championship Football is that we beat the Germans
But changing our name? Why? What we should change however is our form of government. We were the first republic and now we are one of the last monarchies?

I wish... Our queen has a large influence when it comes to forming a new government
We had quite a few laughs at the expense of the House Of Orange last year though

Heh, heh! That's like the Finnish ice hockey team in World Cups... They don't care which place they end up in, just as long as they win the game against us (Sweden)... And when they finally won the gold medal they had a Swedish coach (Curt "Curre" Lindström)! Seriously, Finland-Sweden are great games!
Thanks for the info, very interesting! I guess the girl in your avatar is a prisoner from Holland?

Spamming? Spam has nothing to do with posting in consecutive posts...
First post: an answer to the discussion with DrSpike.
Second post: I thought of another Apolytoner I like and that I haven't seen lately; clearly on-topic.
Third post: Rereading the thread I catched Qilue's post and responded.
Posting just to point out what in your opinion is "spam", however, is indeed a more subtle form of spam. I think it's known as meta-spam or pseudo-spam. DrSpike can give you all the details...

Heh, heh!
Well, since he seems to be away from Apolyton at the moment I guess I could lie and answer yes... Actually, we only met once and it was a clear win for the Canadian side...
After that Julius Brenzaida won against Smash and since JB never lost his crown, Smash and I never played again.

I miss great diplogamers of yore, The Capo and Drake. Though Drake checks in every once in a while to say he isn't able to play in a new game being assembled. Which isn't very helpful
Plus the evil one himself, Eyes of Night. Though I suppose when he does pop back in I never pay him any attention anyways, so I guess I don't miss him that much.
I haven't seen Cold Wizard around much lately either. Maybe he is just frequenting other parts of the site, and I've missed him.

I see you don't follow me into the OT though. Its a scary place. But yea, lets hope Capo is alright. He lives in my county, I should have met him at some point.
Oh, another Civ2-MPer I miss is Species, whatever happened to that guy?
