Actually, I don't think the most recent version (Space Empires IV Gold) is any older than Civ III.

IV is great. There's also a Play-by-web online site that helps regulate email games through the net.
Some really good mods for it are available too.

I have a registered version of III and I have the Gold version of IV. Aaron is working on V now.
It is some what similar to Moo. It is a 4x tbs space game, but SE has a lot more tech and weapons. There are mods for Se as well.

child of Thor that is hard to say. both games are well done and maintained. I liked both, but was not in love with Galciv.
SE4 has a hands on tactical combat system. It also offers a combat tester. This is where you can design a ship and pit it against any design you know about to see how it would fare.
I used that in my first game to see what I need to stop losing battles.
You can sometimes find Galciv in stores at a discount and in the resale pile. SE is not in retail stores and I have never seen it for resale. This means it is hard to get it cheap.

SEV, is it a new 4x, or is it that 'Imperium Galactica I' type game? You know, where we are a space captain or some dumb thing. >:|

I don't know at this time. I saw an interview on one of the game sites, but Aaron has not posted anything yet.
I hope it is a new 4X TBS, I think he mentioned using some 3D graphics. but I may be confused.

You're likely confusing it with Space Empires: Starfury which is a RPG. I'm almost certain SE V is 4X.

Starfury is our and is an RPG in space. SEV is not out and is only annouced by Shrapnel Games. It is same as all SE game, with some form of 3D. I found a blurp with Google.

Thanx for clarifying that.
I never played SEIII, so I don't know how the two compare. I can't imagine SEIV not living up to it.

I just want to know if its worth paying for the "extra" features if there even are any, I wouldn't want to spend $20 on better graphics (that would be such a horrible waste)

I am not sure, since in some respecs it is very much like SEIII, with better graphics. One thing I actually asked Aaron for was the ability to turn off spying and he put it in. I must have sent him a ton of emails about the log going to the top after you goto to any other screen and he finally fixed that it. This helps a lot with long logs. Many techs can be turned off. I think they have a demo, so give that a try.

Plus like I said, there's an active PBEM community for IV. That alone might be worth the extra money spent, if you like multiplaying.

Would any of you take a look at my sig and perhaps take time to compose the table data for SE IV? I had the game but I haven't had the time to play it, so I know virtually nothing about it.

You should also visit the shrapnelgames web site. They have an extensive forum for this game, SEIV.
