Come to think of it Hydey was consulted on makeo taking an AI civ - I suggested it on chat and Hydey didn't object!

Makeo had retired and rejioned before I had a chance to object

Priorities, Hydey. Either make them stay up until you've had enough Civ for the night, or totally ignore them.

Or get a dog. Oh, that's right, you've already got one. But he/she doesn't interrupt your civving, does he/she. Mmmm. There's a message in there somewhere.

You find that one of the other humans has a good start and the other one claimed a bad start, sooked and whined about it and then retired and came back in as the strongest AI, who happens to be you neighbour.

<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>

I was ready to concede the match and exit. Horse and Hydey concinved me to stay in the game and as a favour decided to do so as an ai. Obviously I would return as the strongest.

'sooked and whined' how does it go? whatever?

I have no problem with losing if Makeo had attacked my cities and crushed me out of the game ,I would have gone away content with the fact I had already beaten him as he quit from his original civ.
<img src="/images/blue1.gif" width=100% height=1></font></td></tr></table></center>

I don't really understand what your trying to say here.
You would have no problem if i had of crushed you with my ai civ? But you have a problem when i bribe a barb city that used to be yours?
Yes you had already beaten me in this game and thats why i wanted to concede. This makes your earlier statement that you were behind me when i was the Aztecs a little strange.

I find your behaviour incredible. Petulant. I agree my actions were aggressive. I stole techs, I bribed a barb city that used to be yours. THIS IS PART OF THE GAME!
Your ridiculous ultimatum, consisting of 'Give that back or i'm quitting' was childish. I was quite willing to discuss giving it back in the context of the game but to make an ultimatum exactly the same as a petulant child would did not endear yourself to me. How old are you again?

HA HA HA HA! Makeo, you claim you are so good... couldn't you dig your way out of the
hole with your great skills????

And then to come back as a better AI...
Gee, maybe you aren't as good as people claim HA HA HA HA... what a wimp

Ming, Please show me one single instance where I have talked about how well or poorly I play. One single instance. I am saddened that you would say such a totally untrue thing. I have never ever commented on how well i play. Any reputation I have comes from people I have played.

I'll gladly send you a save file of the game and the position i was in. Perhaps when you know what you are talking about you can comment. Until then.......

Yeah, makeo was well behind me when he conceded - I had 8 or 9 cities, he had 2 or 3. makeo in fact took over a civ that he didn't create to start with so with the ai civ he was just going into a second. I think people are being unfair to him. He's a good player.

Gee Makeo... until you spoke up, your "buddies" had painted a wonderful picture of you falling behind then quiting... then rejoining the game as a more powerful civ
Nobody had mentioned that you had resigned, and then was begged to come back

We have been playing some games where the person who gets off to a slow start suddenly disappears without a word, never to be seen again. This is really unfair to the people who are left behind, especially in a small game. Reminds me a lot of the Zone

So I was just giving you, or anybody that quits a game just because they are behind, a lot of grief Now that the TRUE story has come out... I ask for your forgiveness...

I'm not really looking forward to being a better player if it means I need optimum starts, hamstringing rules, etc. to make my game ideal. I agree that some aspects of Civ MP can end up being less than ideal when playing against other good players, but isn't part of being good learning how to pull the fat out of the fire? If you were behind a number of cities, fighting a barb infestation, hemmed in, etc, and managed to get back on top EVEN ONE TIME out of many, wouldn't that be a rush? I suck eggs at this game, but I played for 4 hours on Sunday, starting on a pathetic little 3 city island. This is against seasoned players in a no warfare game...spaceships only, no wonders. I know I have next to no chance of keeping even, unless I go against the spirit of the game. As it is, I'll be sending out an army of diplomats, just to catch up. But it is still fun. I get a thrill out of how well others are doing as well. Perhaps once the learning curve has been eliminated, Civ becomes an exercise in ego, rather than a game?
I think everyone is being unfair to everyone in this particular instance. It is all poor communication, nothing else. Makeo and Hydey need to kiss and make up. The guy was off with his kids, for God's sake. I will volunteer my pathetic services the Australian coalition, if only to give them someone lowly and laughable to lord over and defray the animosity that seems to be taking over their spirited friendship! Fin, I recall a game where you had to leave and walk your dogs, so you're obviously attached to your "children" too!
I also point out that, in the dark shadows of this issue, lurking with a likely feverish glee, is the Horse...I'll bet he masterminded the whole thing. Think of the future battles between my nephew and Makeo, whilst Horse merrily thrives in Utopian peacefulness. Don't fall for his clever ruse, guys.

Umm, nobody begged him, I felt sorry for him

The civ he took over originally had been created by his mum (cute, no?).

Come on guys! Settle down.
It's just a game Geez.. I hate it when folks say that to me when I'm wound up

The whole saga above is obviously a mis-understanding. AH proposed a change, hydey was not in the loop (AFK), and then apparently unfair things occurred that was not in accordance with the original design of this planet No one actually did anything WRONG. We are human! We get tired and cranky sometimes. But we bounce back....

We have a great Aussie group here so let's settle the differences.
Logging in EVERY night may be a problem and you need to keep life/families in perspective, IMHO. As you know this is what I've had to do the last few weeks otherwise, regardless of other pressures, the civ game gets way to dominant. I love it when the play is serious but when people get upset outside the game then you need to take a rain check.

This great group has many combinations of great games. I'm sorry I haven't been so available but when I play I really enjoy it
Friday night is a good slot for me to keep the Big Aussie Game going, sometimes Tuesday nights.... not sure about tonight yet.

The tourney game takes priority at the weekend for the moment though.

Ya know, Hydey gave me all his cities bar his capital when he spat the dummy in the game with makeo. Its given me a lot to think about, and to try not to think about. The only conclusion I can draw is Hydey's civs must have had manicured lawns.

I guess it would please Hydey to know that his capital, with all of 2 units, up and attacked me and was a pebble in my shoe for some time.

As for makeo, well we all know he's not a warmonger but he's actually defeating me by enialating my cities one by one. Of 6 cities he's attacked, 3 have been competely destroyed, the other 3 were reduced to size 1 or 2 with all improvements destroyed. But, as I say, he's not a warmonger (even though he did of course start this war through tech stealing). 15 cities to go

On the positive side, he had to spend 9 cav and several diplo to get the last city. I'm just waiting patiently to really put his tit in a ringer, so the game is still fun for me

Its 1804 now if you're interested fin.

OOOOOOOOOO touchy, but forgive him folks - he didn't take one of my cities in the last session

What's wrong with you makeo? 30 cities and 130 units plays 15 cities and 90 units and not 1 city lost? You got 4 in the last session

(session ends 30 cities and 124 units plays 15 and 89)

I'm no warmonger but I love a good stoush.

Once I had the jump on one of Berserkers units with a chariot and demanded the unit leave or be illiminated. So he honored that, but went to squash another civ first which made me realize it would only stave off my being attacked by his then bigger assimilated civ.
Regretably the game was never finished.

Just to keep this whole spat in perspective, when someone does something in a civ game that irritates you, or you have some kind of misunderstanding (which happens to all of us at times), Just remember this:

Physics is really really cool.

Of course Makeo attacked you and stole your techs. That's what he does. But that's to be expected. But I've never seen Makeo break an alliance, and that's the only honor that really matters in a civ game, inside of the parameters of the rules.
