Anyhow our air defence was greatly improved because of this case. Thanks to this fellow... ... don't remember his name.

Matthias Russ. Most of us thought he should have been shot down.

No, I have no doubts that our sailors would risk/risked their lives to save their brothers in arms. I just doubt that your sailors would put their lives in grave, extreme danger to save Russian sailors. First of all I doubt, they were able to do something with their equipment, to adobt it for our standard, to made it actually possible to enter Russian sub with their equipment created to perform rescue missions on NATO's subs, such adoptation greatly increase danger for recue team (I also doubt it is possible to make such adaptation within few days).
I just remebered that during Kursk's lifting operation there was a small scandal, because some foreign divers refused to fulfil their contracts because of extremely dangerous conditions.

Was he able to walk by himself or only after they pumped him full of meds? Or was that Breznev?

Not only he was able to walk by himself, but even dance folk dances while knocking tables with boot he hold in his hand to provide some accompaniment for his dance.
They guy you are talking about is late Brezhnev. When he was an old fellow, he even wasn't able to swim by himself:

Hehe, those were wild years. Our president Kekkonen was a wild guy himself too, he even ad-hoc climbed to a palm tree during his state visit to Tunisia. I've heard both men were heave drinkers and loved to sauna for hours. Crazy people

Trust has little to do with it.
So are you ready to concede that (using the US census data) your claim that the US had 35m more people than the USSR at the end of the cold war is backwards - meaning that the USSR had 35m more than the US did.

Why not trust the UN? Because the US has declared it "irrelevant", if they don't "vote" as US wishes them?

So you deny that the Soviets killed 15 times more people?
Hell, they even managed to kill more innocent (non-combatant deaths) people from 1933-45 than the Nazis did.
You all were the the worse of two evils. The only reason you all can pretend you are imbued with some sort of virtue from WWII is because had to beat one of you at a time. Lucky for the world you ended up fighting each other for awhile (not for your people however). We got you too, though all of the perpetraters of your holocaust got away.
The only revisionist is you, as Russians are the only people who think of themselves as angelic fascist bashers. You acting inoccent is no more dispicable than a modern German claiming the Jewish holocaust never occured, good thing very few are that stupid.

Though I will say Nazi philosphy is much more repugnate than Communist, the numbers are so far against you that even that pails in comparison to the gruesome "accomplishments" of the Soviets.

And the same crap.
You didn't answer the question. What is the source of your information?

The Press and TV was reporting it at the time. No picture that I know about.

Good. Iwas trying to joking.
Su-30 isn't a naval version, it's multi-purpose fighter.
Su-33 is naval version (aircarrier based).
Su-34 it's fighter-bomber.
Su-32FN it's a naval modification (to destroy naval targets) of Su-34.
Su-37 it's modification of Su-35 (Super Flanker) multi-purpose fighter.
Su-39 it's something that we Russians call "Shturmovik" (support bomber?)
Su-47 it's fighter of fifth generation with forward-swept wings.
|
You are right, I look at my book again last night. Here we do it a difference way.
Here SU-27A =Su-27
SU-27B = SU-30
SU-27C = SU-33
SU-27D = SU-34/32
SU-27E = SU-37
SU-27F = SU-39 The all share the same airframe.
The SU-47 would be given a new number as SU-28 or 29 meaning a new plane.

We knew it after few hours.
How? Even if you had an equipment needed to save sailors from submarine:
1) It was in USA, thousands miles away. Preparations would take several days anyway.
2) If you can save trapped sailors from American subs, it doesn't mean you can save sailors from Russian subs, because our subs have different construction.
Yes, I saw it. This movie is the best of everything what Hollywood made about Russians. Sure it was inaccurate and sometimes silly, but I like it anyway.
It's not surprising. I heard now any foreigner should make a finger tip scan when he arrives in USA.
|
Our DSRV can be anywhere in the world in 24 to 36 hours. Just believe me, we knew where your boat was. Some years ago there was suppose to be talks between your people and ours about making the hatch area the same on your and ours boat's so we could save people in this type of situation.
At our airport all they do is take a picture and a fingerprint, then you go on your way.

There's a big difference between a rescue mission and a recovery mission. One might be willing to risk oneself to save a fellow sailor, even a Russian sailor, but it may not be worth risking yourself to try to raise just a wrecked ship.
