Unpractical my ass. It's the best anti-ship missile in the world.
Quote:

It takes an entire destroyer sized ship to carry one and has no range, burns all its fuel trying to go so fast. So basically the ship carrying it would be dead long before the weapon became useful. However, if hidden along coast lines good bye whoever is on the recieving end.
|
Really? One missile weight about 4 tonns. Destroyer of "Sovremenny" class have 2x4 Sunburn launchers. Range 120 km.
If carried by an aircraft (Su-27, Su-33, Su-32FN) range is 250 km.

The official countermeasure listed for this is "No countermeasure" just too fast. Supposed to be a carrier buster, though would be interesting to see it hit a destroyer. As far as I know only China has these deployed as sea going assets.
|
We never sold them to anyone else. They are too good.

You seem to have a problem with multiplying your ranges by 5-6 times.
"48 nm (90 km)
65 nm (120 km) in 3M80E
some sources claim 250 km"
http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita...sia/moskit.htm
Well, the official sources claim the first. And I was wrong about the platforms carrying it.

Hawker Harrier
Its not the most lethal aircraft in the world but it's the only successful VTOL ever built . The Soviets built one that was crap and even the americans havent built one.

I'll agree it's a deadly missile the EWs (Anti-missile types) call it the "Oh-sh*t" missile.
Although it can be stopped.

5-6 times? You seem to have problems with mathematics.
Once again:
3M80 - 90km
3M80E- 120km
For Sunburn launched from an aircraft range extends to 250km.

Soviets took this trick from Germans, BTW. They started first to shot their retreating troops, when their asses were kicked in Moscow's counter-offence. Soviets came to this idea only year or so later then Germans.

Buddy, you dropped the hammer on inexperienced, ill-equipped (what with our total control of the sealanes) soldiers with the Rompin' Stompin' Russian Red Ass. The Confederate Army, circa 1863 could have beat those yolkels.

I think you guys would be in a much worse situation fighting the western Allies with no outside help then you would have been fighting Germany (and sitting out the mai phase of combat againest Japan) with our help.

Well, then we throw in Canada, the Dakotas, peeps in the Sierra Nevada, Maine, etc....we could probaly scrape togather 100 million civilians who live in those areas. More to the point, we could scraped togather several ten thousand Pershing MBTs which, if not exactly the T-34, were more than a match for late model German panzers.
