To Patch, or not to Patch?
As we all know, Conquests beta patch 1.12 is out. My question is: Are we gonna patch up before the start of the game?
It's late, so this part of the post which would normally talk about pros and cons has been intentionally left out.

I vote for patch.
While the FP isn't back to what is was pre-conquests, it no longer does cities closer to the palace any harm.
And I also hear that the GPT bug is fixed so we wouldn't have to worry about money coming from nowhere in such deals.

I agree, patch. Unless a hideous bug is discovered, the fixes are all well worth it.

I'd actually vote to wait until January to start when the non-beta patch is out. With a cut out of say Jan. 15th, if its not out (and no signs its coming out) we start anyways with what we have.
The main reason: its annoying for some people to have to keep multi-installs present, and once we start it becomes harder to patch without it effecting the game.

I agree, assuming there'll be another patch in january.
Perhaps we should contact Firaxis? IIRC they gave a general time for the next patch release when asked for the PTW ISDG

Good point, wervdon. The start of the game is going to be delayed anyway, so we might as well wait for the real patch.

The annoucement that there's going to be a beta patch stated that beta patches were the only one to get one out sooner than second quarter of 2004.

Unless the patch turns out to be unstable, use it.

I think we should bring this post up at the UN and suggest waiting for mid-January to start.

I agree
That is great news BTW for all that have PBEM's and don't know whether to patch or not.

I say wait for the full release patch.
With a game as Important as this one, we don't need to get into it and have it crash because of an unknown bug in the beta that might not be there in the full release.

Disagreeded with E_T. Worst I see hapening is that the machine needs rebooted, and that needs done perodically for single player games already. In a PBEM game with oppoents spread out, your unlikely to spend so much time in one session for memory leaks to be a factor, especally if the sound effects are turned off.

Now that the patch situation has stabelized, I'm going to vote we start with 1.15b (once the localized versions come out anyways).
Jesse said it's the last patch until the official one at the end of February.

If you mean 1.15b, I downloaded my copy from CFC, not official, but it seems to be working fine for me. The only caveat is that its not localized for non-english versions, but Jesse said that would be fixed for a final 1.15 beta patch then the beta's would stop until the official patch release.

Hopefully the final 1.15 beta patch will come out before this game starts for the non-english speakers.

Do I need 1.12 and/or 1.13 before applying 1.15 ?

Yes. You need to apply 1.12, then 1.13, then 1.15
The patches are additive.

Patch as far as 1.12. To 1.15 ONLY when the all-languages version does, and if we hear no problmes from it.
