Low: Being sick for most of the time for three months straight (having chunks of my sinus membrane yanked out by a doctor on friday wasn't too much fun either).

Low: My parents deciding to call it quits after nearly 19 years.

High: The last two months or so of university. Till the above happened anyway, which was just before the end of uni.

Low: Having to redo large chunks of my last course to get a degree I really don't care about, while trying to succeed in my new course.

High: Getting in to the Culture Journalism programme in Umeå after a summer's wait.

This may serve to show just how single-minded I am:
Intelligence, Intelligent people & Valuing of intelligence: GOOD
Ignorance, Stupid people & Valuing of thougtlessness: BAD

Highs:
Locating intelligent people (some on Poly, most elsewhere), expanding my mind, having lots of smart conversations.

Lows:
Being around idiots, or people who opt not to think, or ignorant/presumptuous folk like family.

Despair, pain and rejection don't bother me that much as I am used to them by now (at the expense of not being recept to Content, Pleasure and Acceptance), so I judge my happiness by my mission to get people to accept others' thoughts.

Low: A few very depressing personal moments. I hate being in a bad mood anyway, and that was far worse than simply bad mood.

Low: Going online to e-mail my old high-school buddy to tell him exactly when I'd be arriving for Christmas and instead receiving an e-mail from his daughter saying he'd died of a heart attack that morning.

High: Coming this week.

After 9 months of battling management over their stupid & illegal two-year-and-out policy, I'm getting reliable rumors that management wants to make a deal which will save the jobs of the people in my local.

Low 2: I just got word that another of my good friends died. He was in the hospital, fighting cancer. I thought he was getting better & was going to visit him today. Man, that's two good friends in eight days.

High: Ending my degree around July, publishing my first techinical paper in September.

Down: Another year without a girlfriend. Not job yet (terrible times for an engineer in Spain).

New years eve on Bokor hillstation in Southern Cambodia, 150 westeners and 200 Khmer raving in the skeleton of an colonial French casino.

Low:

Starting work again in march after 3 month holiday and realising it would be 18 months before I could head out again

Low: Missing my offer for Oxford University (Trinity College). Partly because of a lack of work (Maths), partly because of an exam marking ****-up (Economics - I needed one A from those two). Leaving school in general.

High: Reapplying, finding that University College is almost as nice as Trinity, meeting many nice people during interviews, and getting another offer.

Higher: Realising that I'm the luckiest person I've ever met. When I fail, I get second chances. When things need to go right at a particular time, they do. The satisfaction that comes from knowing that I've done the right thing. For the first time in my life, being able to look back and be proud and happy with what I've done and who I am. Realising that if Armageddon happened tomorrow, that I had to answer for my life, I would feel happy that I haven't messed it up, I haven't misused what I've been given, and that I've done what I believe is best. Liking myself.

Highest: Louise. The person responsible for convincing me of everything above

2003 has been such a good year, Reading Festival hasn't even made it as a high point. Except by association, in that the accident of the last night made me sure I'd fallen in love. A strange thing to do that, but seeing Louise lying there, strapped to the board and in pain, and wishing it had happened to me instead, made me realise how much she meant to me.

High: Meeting someone who helped me through many of the low points, and made me feel i was actually worth something
