Greetings from my new badass machine
Well, parts of it anyway...
I normally don't spend that much money, so most of what I earn goes into savings or to pay off the interest on my college loans...but earlier this semester a power surge left my laptop unusable for a few weeks (I had to send it back to Dell to be fixed) and I realized just how dependent on computer I am.
So, I decided to do something a little earlier than I had planned - build a new computer With Christmas right around the corner, I knew that any extra cash I needed would become available soon, and my parents who are always stumped on what to get me had some new things to add to their list.
What I have so far is my KDS 17" Flat Panel Monitor, Seagate 120GB HD, and a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse/Wireless 108 Button Keyboard (using them all through my laptop, of course)
Yet to come is...
- Athlon XP 2000+ 1.67 GHz 266FSB
- Infineon PC2700 DDR333 512MB
- CREATIVE LABS Samsung 16x DVD ROM
- SONY CDRW 52X24X52
- 64MB GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 4X DUAL VGA NV72
- X-GEAR Beige 350wt w/ USB Ports (6)
Should have it up and running by the new year Just in time for Winter and Spring Sessions

haha, meh....for what I paid, I'm happy with it...especially considering the monitor cost $410 of that!

I don't even know anymore. Let me see.
HP Pavilion
Celeron Processor
GenuineIntel x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3
63 MB RAM
New (but still bulky) hi-res monitor
Win 98
CDW
Ethernet card
14 gig HD
That's about it. Slow as all hell compared to what you have. I can't even run the newer games on this sucker. Any suggestions?

*sigh* let me measure my monitor...
It appears to be a flat screen, 0.36 metres on the diagonal.
Besides that,
I got me Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
Got me 512 Mb of 266 Ram
Got me 128 Mb Geforce 4
Also got a similar size soundcard
Got me 20Gb HD of which 2 GB is used.
This machine cranks out the framerate.

Orange:
900 is an awesome price for your machine, but I still feel bad for you.
Not to brag, but my dad knows alot of computer insiders through his business, and so I get all these sweet factory direct deals. Like you, I just got a new computer myself, and its basically very similar to yours, except its a 2.4ghz Pentium4 and its got a bit more ram, though with a bit smaller HDD (80GB). Total price? $125USD. It almost pisses me off to realize just how much profit these computer retailers make. I mean, that same machine would sell for thousands in the store.
No warranty though, but for that price, ****, if any part breaks I'll just buy a whole new computer.

Windows XP Professional, of course. Soon to be Windows XP 64-bit Edition.
I'm trying to put Linux for x86-64 on it as a secondary OS, but there are no RAID drivers for my motherboard, nor any sound drivers, nor any video drivers.

I'm just heartened to see that practically everyone in this thread has chosen the side of light (Athlon) over the darkness of evil (Intel)...
