All cars should start in a wide start all even to a track that narrows down. Then at least it will require some luck to get the lead by surviving the first set of colisions.

That's a good idea. We could have the starting grid look like this:
Code:
|
....
....
....
....
....
....
.....
.......
........
........
........
----------------........---------------- - Start/Finish line
oooooooo
........
........
........
...... |
Naturally, the center lanes are still the choicest ones, but this set-up makes sense, epsecially taking into consideration that a collision does not take you out of the race altogether: just means you will be far back...

Also, I was looking at the track and something I thought needs mentioning in addition to the rules above is the way a win is scored:
To finish the race, you need to pass the start/finish line. or finish the turn on it. If several drivers finish the race on the same turn, then the person that gets farthest ahead from the line wins. The next person gets the second place, etc. If two people end up on the same line, then whoever was closer to the finish line on the previous turn wins. If the two cars were on the same line during the previous turn as well, then they are tied for the same place.

Hopefully everyone will be back from holiday this weekend and we can test it next week.
Are you going to have people pick cars with different capabilities or is the first one just to iron out the rules.

Starting positions are determined by postcount, that seems easy enough.

I would like a car with "teleportation" capability--it can, on its first turn, teleport to the finish line.

I vote that everyone drives the same car for this first game, just to see how the basic rules work out.
For start positions, based on post-count.
75312468
and so on, with the lower-rank on the outside and the higher ones on the inside.

Yup, I agree with Skanky about the cars: lety's try 'em all the same for the first time and see how it goes. If there is need to kick it up a notch later, we'll do so. I don't want to overcomplicate things right away, so that we don't go the route of Nuclear War (with untested rules adding new and unexpected results, like the governments and propaganda) untill we test out the basics.
However, regarding the start positions.... If everyone agrees with the post-count ranking then alright, but it seems... odd, to me. But okay, for this first race, whatever, we can go with that.

Okay, I figure I'll post the starting positions and open the orders phase for the first move. We'll see how many poeple are back from the vacation.
Starting positions are, this time, determined by the post count. The only exception here is that I get the worst position, since I already know the configuration of the track.
- rah (9504)
- alva (6253)
- Skanky Burns (5930)
- Jamski (5350)
- Frozzy (3391)
- mrmitchell (1476)
- Pave (467)
- vovan (2112)
Letters in bold correspond to the character denoting the racer on the map. The values in parentheses are post counts as of the time of this posting.
This is the starting grid:
Code:
|
....
....
....
....
....
....
.....
.......
........
........
........
----------------........---------------- - Start/Finish line
PFSraJmv
........
........
........
...... |
Post your orders for the race's start, please, keeping in mind that your initial speed is 3.

So orders are posted in the open?
If so, then I will accelerate and move to the right.

Okay, to keep track of whose orders I have received, I figure I will keep an up-to-date map of the track with the projected orders. The letters in bold are the drivers in their current positions. The letters in italics are the drivers in their projected positions as per their orders. That will help in your planning for the order to avoid collisions, and also will yield at-a-glance information as to who has already submitted orders, and who has yet to do so.

So, how long do you figure we should wait for missing orders? I suppose if there is no response from a driver, then the orders remain: straight, and no acceleration. Now, though, how long should we wait between each turn?

Between 24 and 48 hours per round sounds good to me, but then I am on here virtually every day.

Yes, I realize now...
Why I didn´t read the inctructions?
48 hour rule is good, because with me every turn last 48h, minimum.

Okay, in that case, let it be 48 hours.
I started the last round on 6 January, so there's about sevent more hours till the orders are not accepted any more. The way things currently are, both Frozzy and Jamski get off to a fairly good start even without any special orders. So I see no reason to wait for them much longer than that.

After my experience in the first round, open orders might not be the way to go. Some people still don't pay attention. It would be more interesting if you don't know everyone else's move.
