Is there ANY way to add your own music to Civ 3?
I am sick and frikkin tired of this ONE looping song in the modern era. It is quite a good song but at the same time I have played Civ 3 with Conquests expansion almost nonstop since I got it about 4 days ago.
Civ is full of wonderful music, but the same three songs (with one looping all the while) really does grate the nerves. And Civ is less of a game without the music so...
*sighs*
Any way to add my own music or even make music from the other eras play?

Turn off the music and run Winamp or WMP in the background.

I usually run Windows Media Player in the background... You'll probably think I'm nuts, but I even match the songs to the way I'm playing the game... i.e. when I switch to Communism I play the Soviet national anthem and International... etc. And when I'm in a war, I usually play heavy metal songs. And when I switch to Democracy, I play Weird Al.
Yup, I'm nuts.

Not through Civ, as far as I know. You would have to run another program in the background. Unless you have a very old computer, it shouldn't be that much of a problem. I don't have any problem with it on my old computer, which has a 500 mhz processor, and 128 MB ram, so it probably wouldn't be a major problem running a program in the background.

Please don't blame me if this is wrong and causes major problems, but the music files seem to be kept in the folder "C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Sounds\build"
You may be able to place your own music in by replacing the .wav files with your own music (it would probably have to be in .wav format.) Again, this may or may not work, I haven't tested it.

It wont work... If you move any of the songs it will crash the Civ 3 program. The pain in the ass thing is that it loops one Jazz song over and over again in the Modern era. It is an extreme pain in the ass.

Some of the new conquests use custom playlists. Examine those, try the same and say, have the editor make a random map...?

When you copy your own file into there, rename it to what the name of the file you removed was.

if you have winamp3.0 you can both play mp3 and the game's music at the same time.

In original civ3, you could put your own Mp3's to the civ3 folder. I wonder if they needed to be certain bitrate... One couldn't change the settings anywhere. I have a 500 Mhz too, and I'd have been happy with 8000 hrtz mono...
Consicuently, does the Conquests have the same system/operating system requirements as Civ3?

Turn Civ music off. Turn stereo on. You can replace the Civ music files with MP3 files, but I think this can cause a loss of stability.

That's not true... there are 3 songs looping in the Modern Age and they are way better than any other ages ones.
