100+ hours now. is there some way I can tinker with some of my settings so my 50.6kb/s connection downloads things at least at 10kb/s? Or do I need to go have a 'chat' with my ISP
and for the record I hate Zelda. I dont know why though, I played it on NES/SNES (dont remember which one) and it just didnt appeal to me. Of course that was back in the day when Commander Keen and Duke Nukem rocked! Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure was another good side scroller, so was Jazz the Jackrabbit.
I miss DOS

You can chat as much as you want, you aren't getting 10k/s.
If it's slower than your usual potential the constraint is probably the server/person you are downloading from.

perhaps you misunderstood what I meant by chat, I could make the man an offer he could not refuse.
Is there a reason I can't dl a file at 50.6k/s? Technicaly thats how fast Im downloading this website aint it?

That figure is not the effective bandwidth you have for download. Around 5-6k/s is about right. I'm sure some of the computer people around here can explain it better though.

Have you tried segmented downloading using Download Accelerator or GetRight?

[smart ass]no I risk disconnection and therefore loss of all transmitted data while downloading files which take 100+ hours to finish downloading. [/smart ass]
I use getright but all segmented downloading does is keep it up at 4-5 kb/s if I dont segment it it usualy dls at 1-2 kb/s.

This is the price one pays when one lives in Alaska. No shops, no women, slow internet, snow, penguins, etc.

another one? could it be!?
alas it does not say in his profile, therefore he must prove himself to be an Alaskan. In order to prove yourself as an Alaskan you must list all of the malls in Anchorage.
as for the download, only 65hours left to go!

Nah, those typically go alot faster, becuase they're usually well distributed. It's the really obscure movies that take ages.... or obscure games, I guess. I don't remember which it was.

Diablo is mindless hack-n-slash. I just picked up Diablo2 for 10 buck at Toys-R-Us.

How about Baldur's Gate...The story is simple to follow...there is tons of stuff you can do...and there is lots of killing to be done. In my opinion this is the best RPG ever.
PS Diablo does suck! I returned it a week after playing it.

I have 20 bucks, and a grocery store that only carries ungodly overpriced gamecube games.

Another free RPG, if you don't mind a sci-fi setting, is the Ur-Quan Masters remake of Star Control 2. If you played the original it dosn't really have anything new, but otherwise you might give it a try.
Lastly, the free demo of Strange Adventures in Infinite Space might be worth downloading (unfortunately searching for SAIS brings up the Scottish Avalanche Information Service )
