Your favorite threads of all time...
I was looking through the archives and saw some of my old favorites...
Saint Marcus looking for love (and maybe spelling) advice in connecting with girls on an intellectuel level
Asher and I teaming up vs UR and Drake in regards to MS decision to pay dividends in MS gives dividends for the first time ($870M), stock split, Xbox surprise performer
... and we decided to laugh at AOL-Time Warner in the AOL posts largest annual loss in US history ($100B), Ted Turner resigns
Me and KrazyHorse get into it in MarkG's A liberal and a conservative were sitting in a bar. Then Bill Gates walked in. I skewed the argument to make my point, but KH just totally made his up. Well, I guess we're both liars.
Y'all remember these idiots? Westerns as human shields in Iraq
And how could we forget Kidicious' original Is profit different from unfair tax?, a thread so popular it gave birth to Jr: Is profit different from unfair tax? Part 2.
So, what are some of the gems of yesteryear that y'all remember with particular (and maybe peculiar) fondness?

I liked the Excellent Adventures... I don't think many of them survive in the archives .

Naw, a misjudgement on our part. If we had properly communicated what we were doing, it might have ended differently.

Naw, this way was better. More cloak-and-dagger stuff to make the posters even more paranoid...

Well, seeing as how I participated in every one (except one, I think), I couldn't just pick one! The series was the important thing! From the original, which I started, YYYH and Imran's Excellent Adventure, where we time traveled and battled Lord Stone (and which is lost to all time), to the World Cup Excellent Adventure. Great stuff all of them!

Yes, those excellent adventure threads were good. They inspired me to do the Ferrets "On The Road" threads. Probably not as good as the originals, but they had a good following.

Yea, I like the World Cup Excellent Adventures the best, because I helped the plot along in that too. Also because its the only one I read.
I asked this in another thread Imran, when's the next Excellent Adventures thread? I think we are due. I'd love to see one based in Iraq.

Any of the pre-war threads where Apolyton's right wingers boldly claimed that reports of hidden WMDs were correct.
I looked back at some of them and they're a hoot.
And that thread where someone asks KH "Is albertan Canadian for idiot?" or words to that effect.

Actually I can't find my all time fave.
It wasn't that long ago either. Some Bush-booster misunderstood a report about the discovery of legal (i.e. UN authorized) Iraqui SAMs and thought it was the "smoking gun".
Then he piled on here and submitted a long gloating post as to how we war-doubters could "eat ****" (or some similar phrase).
Watching the penny drop and the inevitable climbdown was funny.

You are too much of a n00b ( ) to have witnessed EVC's flameouts with his DL, Emperor Craetszar. In this one thread EVC was yelling about how EC was attacking his computer with viruses, worms, etc in an attempt to hijack EVC's 'Poly account, while EC was denying the allegations and claiming that EVC was trying to hijack his computer.
Quote:
|
MING!!! MING!!!! TELL HIM TO STOP!!!!
|
(paraphrase, but it was full of stuff like that)
That thread alone cost me a full day of work... a masterpiece.
In another, EVC was kinda simpering about EC while EC was just dumping on him. Another great thread, but it didn't have the kinetic energy of the first.
The last great EVC thread was "MY DEMANDS", a complete lunatic babble about something or other whereupon I made my first, greatest (and possibly only) lasting contribution to the site by naming EVC "Apolyton's Daffy Duck" - a phrase so favored by MarkG that he made it EVC's title (where most people have Settler, King, etc) for a few months.

There's always this classic thread: Pictures from the San Diego meet. Why is it so classic? There were no pictures of the SD meet.

Speaking of which, does anyone have a link to Laz's "evil evil Finland"? It was extremely funny to see the Finnish spree start here on 'Poly

You did? It must've been after our Atlanta meet 'cause the SD thread was already over 200 posts when Imran posted the "Pictures of the Atlanta meet - with actual pictures!" thread.

JohnT offers UR some (untaken, I'm sure) investment advice in Vesayen's If you had $500,000 to put in stocks, what would you put it in-also stock stories!
Had UR (or I, even ) followed my advice, his investment in Kmart would've tripled and his investment in Ford would've doubled.
Also, I got props from Sten Sture re: my investment strategy. How many people here can say that?

Carolus Rex would've made a FREAKIN KILLING!!! had s/he followed their own advice at buying gobs of Ericsson phone (NASDAQ: ERICY) at $.57/share. Yesterday the stock closed at $18.26!
(researching further) I think there was a 1:10 split, making the original price an adjusted $5.70... but still, that's pretty good!
