xcom w/o cd
I've got the xcom urge again so i re-installed it. However, the performance rather sucks. I have a few questions:
1. how can i get it to run without the cd? I tried copying the cd to c: and then installing it from there, but it doesn't work. when i look at xcom.bat, it appears that the other two batch progs in there are the problem. can i edit in a fix or do i need a crack?
2. is there a program that allows me to control the mhz of my computer? preferably in a window.
3. can xcom run in a window? i haven't tried messing with it yet. also, is there any advice for better performance through preference settings?
thanks in advance.

My version is the disk version that just happens to be copied to a cd, so it is probably different to your version.
Can you copy-paste the contents of the bat files in this thread so others can see what exactly the problem is. XCom was a dos game, so the copy-protection was internal. It predates needing the cd in to verify game ownership. At least, my version predates that concept.
MoSlo or something similar might be of use. Google for it.
